Well, well, well ... what can I say that isn't too predictable?

I did not like the beginning of the show with Jon being on the other side of the stage, singing to the crowd, back to 3/4 of the audience. The moment any band takes the stage is a very very very special one and seeing the singers back doesn't make it more electrifying. Big no to that.

If Jon needs 6 people trailing him on the way back to the stage, he should consider NOT to leave the safety of the stage. It kind of makes the whole thing look silly. Yes, I realize there are some scary scary women out there in the crowd, but surely 2 bodyguards might be enough? 6? *giggles*

Longer isn't always better.

Jon is a fIne man and at 44 years old, I'd like him to be content with knowing he is quite fine. No need to make an act out of it. The lip thing and toosh shaking is a bit immature to say the least. It's always bothered me, but tonight I found it particularly disturbing. Maybe because of the age. Maybe because I like men who are a bit more 'real'. Who knows.

The first 1.5 hours was a bit drab. I believe that the majority of the audience was the casual fan, back from the 80s. The hits got the roars, the rest got some applause. They certainly didn't bring the house down with either, though.

It almost seemed that the band had played the songs a few too many times and there was no passion left in them. At one point, I was certain Jon fell asleep, .... but then he blinked.

Radio saved my life is one of my favorite newer songs and I didn't much like it tonight. It was sung in a rather monotonous and low key - it didn't have the same feeling. Most of the people around me were sitting down.

The kids on stage (fans) irritate me.

Novocaine was really good even though I don't like the song on the album.

Blaze of Glory was amazing. Sung at the sidelines - surrounded by 6 bodyguards. Nonetheless, I thought it was magical. Bed of Roses followed and Jon walked through the crowd shaking hands - great moment. Much better than the dancing with a girl on stage....

The tempo did pick up after those two songs and the crowd might have gotten a bit more into it. I sure liked it better than the first 2/3s.

It was an alright show, but there is nothing special about Bon JOvi live. I say that being quite critical. IF it wasn't Jovi, I wouldn't be so harsh on a band. I am particularly critical with BJ because they repeatedly claim to be one of the best live bands - yet, they aren't. I've thought alot about why that might be and one theory I've come up with is because the bands I have seen recently that are breathtaking are more relevant. Their songs are newer, fresher, relevant to this day and age and probaly more relevant and closer to the band as well. Cornell, who has been around for almost as long as BJ, and who I have seen taking the house down - having the crowd go insane, only sings a couple of old Soundgarden songs - everything else is new material. (but then those are homeshows for cornell - maybe there really is a difference). He also doesn't shake his toosh, nor is he preoccupied with looking cute. Jovi sing mostly old material. I do believe that the more relevant a song is to the audience and band, the more passion/drive/and electricity it conveys. I want a grown man to perform his songs, not shake his tush or make pouting lips for the oompth time. It's unnecessary. It makes it hard to take the artist seriously - especially at a certain age.

I got a PM from a friend on "another board" ... i was there asking .. where are the seattle reviews and my friend sent me a PM ... in there was the Maria review but my friend didn't put the poster name ... and I guessed who posted that most certainly because of the mr Cornell mention ... but I have to say that I think this review is VERY interesting Maria ... this is the first time I hear someone who dares to say I don't like this or that ... like the opening at the back of the venue ... well maybe because of the message board I post on , but so far no one said anything even slightly negative about that so , me , thinking "arghhh I don't like that opening " I just felt bad ... well not anymore !!

I love Jovi live still and will probably forever ... but they do have weak points (not enough rock for me this time not enough guitar solo -a tour too much based on just Jon ) Jon has always been a good looking guy but I feel like today this is his main obsession.... his and his fans one and only interest .... I prefered the time where Jon was less focused on his look that's for sure- and he wasn't less cute to be less focused on it but the opposite ...

I presume this is a review of LAST night's (MONDAY) concert, even though it says WEDNESDAY...

Review: Bon Jovi returns to glory days in Seattle show

By GENE STOUT
P-I POP MUSIC CRITIC

Bon Jovi went in and out in a blaze of glory Wednesday night.

KeyArena was packed to the top row for the New Jersey rock group's triumphant Seattle return.

It was like the band's glory days of the late 1980s, when arena rock ruled and "hair bands" rocked the former Seattle Center Coliseum week after week with loud, raucous, guitar-based rock 'n' roll.

Bon Jovi, led by blond-haired singer-guitarist Jon Bon Jovi, is one of the great survivors of an era that virtually came to an end when the ascendant Seattle grunge scene went international in the early 1990s.

Bon Jovi never went away, but continued to pack arenas and stadiums overseas while grunge, alternative rock, modern rock, hip-hop and other genres ruled the decade.

At KeyArena, it was obvious a lot of longtime fans had been missing the bombastic, fun-loving days that made anthems of "You Give Love a Bad Name," "Last Man Standing," "I'll Sleep When I'm Dead" and other songs.

Jon Bon Jovi and his entourage, including guitar star Richie Sambora, took the stage at about 8:20 p.m. following a short, powerful opening set by Marysville rock band Martyr Reef, which won a local KLSY-FM "Have a Nice Gig" talent contest sanctioned by Bon Jovi.

The contest was part of a national campaign to find young talent to open Bon Jovi concerts across the country -- a payback of sorts from a band that got a similar break more than 20 years ago when a New York station played the song "Runaway," launching it nationally.

"Runaway" was part of a 2 1/2-hour set that kicked off with such songs as "You Give Love a Bad Name," which prompted a spontaneous, house-rocking singalong.

A giant video screen flanked by a larger LED screen surrounded by neon created a soaring, multi-colored Vegas-strip ambience.

Jon Bon Jovi, wearing faded jeans and a taffy-colored leather jacket, led the seven-piece touring band in a celebratory romp through the band's vast repertoire of greatest hits from two decades, as well as new songs from the current album "Have a Nice Day." The title song was among the evening's most colorful segments, with smiley-faced LED images accompanying the socially conscious song about America's political divide.

During a multi-song acoustic set late in the show, Jon Bon Jovi stood on a tiny stage in the middle of the audience for a powerful "Blaze of Glory," one of the group's signature songs.

Guitarist Sambora handled the lead vocals for a crowd-pleasing, singalong version of "I'll Be There for You." Jon Bon Jovi returned to the microphone for Tom Petty's "I Won't Back Down."

"Bad Medicine" and "Livin' On a Prayer" were among the closing songs in beefy set that had the capacity crowd grinning, cheering and pumping fists for more than two hours.

The show wound to a finish with an encore of "Treat Her Right," "Wanted Dead Or Alive" and "Keep the Faith." The band returned just long enough for Jon Bon Jovi to wind through the crowd, greeting ecstatic fans during a brief finale.

So, after this review, are you going to even go to another Bon Jovi show? Can't see their shows changing as much as I think you need them to.

Does anyone have a setlist?

Good review! Although I think it's the only one I've read that was AGAINST Jon starting out at the back of the arena.

It was not a good opening. While Jon was at the back, they stopped traffic down to the floor, so people who came in during the beginning of the show kept glogging the stairwells on the lower sides. People didn't see JOn in the back and kept staring at the stage trying to make out who is who. Lot's of talking because there was singing but clearly no singer.... Lot's of confusion. The opening song with the back to the crowd is a big no no imo and simply did not not work. Of course the people in the back seats were happy to have Jon close up!

I very very much agree!

Yes, during the encore. But not with the jungle noises as during the Bounce tour.

The setlist was very similar to that of Portland without Captain Crash (thank the lord). I am not one to write on my hand during the show to make sure Ï have an accurate setlist OH, oh, oh they played Wild in the Streets which made my night

Of course, I'll see them again. It was a 'good' show. Just not exceptional. Not sure I'll see them again soon, but I will eventually. Depending on what other bands tour at the same time. Mind you, I used to be one of those people that said you can't find a better show than a BJ one. I've been eating my words since..

OH, and I don't 'need' anything. I go to a show and I'll let you all know what I thought. That's about it. Not liking certain parts doesn't preclude me from never seeing a band I've loved for 20 years again.

I was thinking of you throughout the concert and wanted to pm you that you shouldn't be too upset not going to see them this time around.

utter crap article ... I wish I got paid for crap like that.

Last Man Standing is a BJ anthem? Blaze of Glory is 'the groups' signature song? It was like the late 80s? Hahahahahahaah...

*sigh*
