Several of the key points that Spunk wasn't thrilled with:

1.Jon starting the show by himself at the end of the arena.
my personal preference - *I* didn't think it worked. I am fine with anybody else thinking it was brilliant

2.Jon shaking his ass.
I know it is what lots of fans like - I still find it embarrassing and juvenile. Again, unlike a lot of die hard fans, I don't give a dime about the singers looks

3.Jon not being "real".
I didn't say he wasn't real. I said, there didn't seem to be adequate passion. Jon seems very real just standing there going through the motions.

4.Bon Jovi NOT being one of the best live bands.
I don't have a problem with that at all. I am merely pointing out the fact that there are some much better live bands out there and the only reason I bring it up is because BJ themselves like to claim that fame - yet, they are wrong about themselves.

Funny you should mention the Foos. I actually walked away and thought it was a show at the same league as the Foo Fighter show. A good show Not breathtaking though. I wouldn't give the Foos any crap for it - but then they don't go around claiming to be the best in the world

Now, its a few days off before the band has another concert - so rest up and we'll see you in PHOENIX on Thursday night!

Replace BOR by the original version (or even Always TLFR - I don't like it much, but they seem to play BOR every single night now), drop Treat her right and/or even add Great Balls Of Fire instead and you have a great setlist, allthought I'd much rather hear ITA than Wild in the streets - I've heard that one too often and it's also not really my favorite. ITA is.

Richie again sang IBTFY solo and electric !

It's too bad though that everytime we only have to check the encore to see the "highlights".

To those who went: did Jon sing Jungle or Sympathy in the middle of Faith?

I'm sorry but you can't honestly beleive the lack of movement in Richie is because of his divorce? He's been like that for a few years now. Some shows he'll interact, some shows not so much but I've never seen him run around or anything.

That's a very hard question as the show didn't 'suck' to begin with. It just wasn't extraordinary. It's also hard because I admit to being supercritical with the band - more so than I would be seeing Coldplay for the first time, for example.

The show that was THE show for me was the second Audioslave show I saw. It'll be my benchmark for many shows to come. There were no cutsie distractions, but the focus was on the music and music alone (though Cornell is every bit as hot as Jon is and girls do go gaga over him as well). The crowd goes wild and I can tell that Cornell lives and breathes his songs. Like I said in my review, it may be because the songs are more relevant to this day and age. The crowd goes to hear the new album - whereas in a jovi show, it seems the crowd doesn't know the new album, but wants to hear SWW and NJ stuff. I don't think a band can play the same songs for 10/20 years and still live and breathe them as if they wrote them a few months ago.

As for Jon's stage present. My first reaction would be more stage movement. I keep thinking about the Live in London video and I thought it showed a lot of what made jovi exceptional. There was so much movement/jumping/back and forth. The tempo last night didn't pick up until after Blaze of Glory. Check out Green Day and you know what I mean - Billy Joe Armstrong is a whirlwind and you cannot cannot cannot get bored, even if you didn't like the songs (I think). I think Jon used to be more like BJA in that he was in constant movement, not anymore.

That's all I can think of right now.[/QUOTE]

Maybe Jon was a little pooped from the Sunday, Portland show. Other than that, I don't know why he was less mobile because all of the shows I've been to, with the exception of DC, where he had a hurt back, he's been very mobile, absolutely as much as Live In London. But, I get what you are saying there. And while I'm not a fan of Billy Joe I do think he is a very energtic front man. And good point, about a BJ crowd versus and Audioslave crowd, the thing is Bon Jovi is stuck with the fact that they've had a lot of radio hits and folks want to hear them. We'd get a much different show if they played none of the hits (which I'd love by they way) but would they sell out arenas then, probably not. But, you would get an audience that is made up of those that are there for the music not because Jon is hot.

I do have to agree with Dan when he says there are certain aspects of Jon that are just "him" as a front man, the ass shaking, the smiling, pouting, etc. That's the same Jon I've seen since 1985.

It's kind of hard to run around when you're plugged into an amp.

Yes, I agree very much. In fact, I truly do think that the majority of the crowd were the fans from back in the 80s. Of course there were young ones too - new fans, but the majority, I believe was the casual fan that came to see/hear the radio hits. I've never been to a Stones concert, but I'd imagine the crowd to be very similar in that respect. They don't care about rarities or solo work - I've seen the same at Springsteen shows - with the difference that Springsteen doesn't give a shit and just won't play 'born in the usa' - which I think is ace!

Bands like the Foos or Audioslave will mostly present new material and that is what the fans want. The last Audioslave show was full of youngsters and when Cornell had the original Spoonman come out and perform with his spoons, the kids next to me had no idea who that dude was and how utterly profound and special that performance was. Shame really, but then such is life

So, yes, in my perfect world, BJ wouldn't care about the casual fan that only comes out to see some old 80s bands, but would play what they feel like playing and not shake a toosh or pout or rip off some clothes, but kick ass in a way they feel at that night. It would definitely be a different crowd and most likely more of a once in a lifetime experience if they would. But hey, it's their choice and their way of doing things.

Was Gloria played last night? Some reviews on backstage are saying it was played but they didn't post when.

Richie is not too active on stage NOW because he hates moving around, he's stated this in print. He wants to just play.

However, from 1984 to 1993, Richie was very active, participating in choreography with Jon and Alec and having his own trademark moves that were done in various songs. By the KTF tour they were mostly just doing the choreography that had been in place, not introducing anything new and by These Days it was just dropped altogether.

Bottomline, plugged into an amp isn't stopping him and there is wireless. He just plain doesn't want to. Then there are the other guitarists....Angus Young, the late great Steve Clark, and Zakk Wylde to name a few whose stage moves are very bit their trademark (and not easy to do while playing.)

Right. I know Richie has said he doesn't like to play wireless. It's not his preference. I get that that is his choice. And it doesn't really bother me. But even with wireless technology I don't think Richie would or NEEDS to run all over the stage like Jon does.

As for back in the day.. well I didn't see them til 1995 so I guess I missed Richie's "choreography".
