Focus minus perspective, priority setting, and anticipation of consequences is what causes tunnel vision. It can result in ending up with exactly what you don't want -- and even worse, what you don't expect.

Or selling 130+ million records, being one of the only 5 musical artists to make over a billion dollars in touring revenue, 5 number one albums on the US Billboard charts, a career spanning over 30 years, several #1 songs (# varies depending on which charts you use), numerous critical and fan awards as both a band and a solo artist, a successful philanthropic foundation, a cool $300 million in the bank....

I think most of us would be lucky/proud/happy to claim as much success in our careers.

But if I'd accomplished all that in conjunction with others, I certainly wouldn't feel any less lucky, proud, or happy. And I certainly wouldn't go around pretending that I had done it all myself -- especially if neither me nor my partners were particularly successful on our own.

As much as Jon would like Bon Jovi to go down in rock history as the work of a freestanding self-made artist like Bruce or Hendrix, it just didn't happen that way, and there's no reason to be ashamed of that: I don't think Slayer or Judas Priest or AC/DC or Jon's benchmark Rolling Stones feel ashamed, even with all THEIR lineup changes!

He hasn't taken any credit from Richie. He has never not given Richie credit for what Richie has done.

It has been Jon's vision that's taken them where they've gone and even RICHIE has said that. After Jon fired Doc, he asked them to trust him and they collectively made the decision to do so. That's why they prospered for another 20 years. Jon's the one with head for both artistic vision and business sense. I watched a video yesterday where Jon was asked who was the boss in the band and he said it was him, but he was also talking about naming the last album Because We Can and he said that it was the only name that he'd come up with that the other members liked so it's not a dictatorship. They other guys have input, but someone has to make the final call. (It was from the UK, right around the time Sandy hit.)

Richie's gone. There's no need to continue to look for conspiracy theories that don't exist. Trying to say Jon's a failure because someone quit the band is ridiculous. Business relationships don't typically last a lifetime.

I feel like a fanboy again, it's 11PM, don't think I'm going to get much sleep tonight, super excited for my second Jovi show.

More excited for this concert than any of my Train(5) or Matchbox Twenty shows! Probably on par with Matt Nathanson though - my fav. live act.
