I couldn't tweet from the show because I didn't have signal and I ran out of battery, so here it's my review, and it's not a short one.
The day before the gig I didn't wanted to go to Chile, I honestly thought that it was going to suck and I was having some personal issues (like Richie but actually personal issues, not with the band nor Jon), but I had my plane tickets, the hotel, everything. Also, I thought that at least I could hear (You Want To) Make A Memory. I didn't.
I went to Santiago almost without sleeping, it's really a beautiful city. It's really different to Buenos Aires, but not in a bad way. I went with a friend that did three Argentina shirts that said "TICO/DAVID/JON - BON JOVI- 30 YEARS" and I gave them myself to Bobby, Hugh and Rich (the new drummer), couldn't take a picture with them as security made step back. Bobby is really cool, he smiled a lot when he saw the Tico shirt, seems like a cool guy Hugh was in his world, i don't know what's the deal with that guy, he always have the same face. Paul Korzillus spoke to us, really cool, like Bob.
We were going to stay in the Ritz-Carltron, the same hotel the band was supposed to stay, but they changed it in the last minute to the Noi. Thank to god with all the reschedule we reserved a cheaper one. We went to the Ritz and they weren't there (we didn't know back then), then we went to the Sheraton (the crew was there but not the band) and there they told us that the band was in the Noi, but it was too late so we went to the stadium, which is kinda small compared to River Plate's Monumental but it's beautiful as it has the Cordillera de los Andes behind it.
Once there I heard In These Arms, there was a stand where they take you pictures with band's posters and stuff and they played Bon Jovi music. The stadium was pretty empty when I got there and it was late, it was never full capacity, the "Cancha Preferncial" (the half of the field that was nearer to the band) never got full. There were 35.000 and the capacity of the stadium was 46.000.
Nickelback kicked asses! Animals + Something In Your Mouth is a killer combo, but the crowd didn't reacted. I started shouting "Nickelback! Nickelback!" but nobody sang along with me. I really can't understand how you don't move with songs like that, or sing, or anything; maybe it was because most of the crowd were 40 year old women. That drove me crazy as I HATE when people don't act in a gig like they were... well, in a gig. Chad is an amazing frontman, he did his best to make the people sang, and he finally got it. Yep, they do the same thing than in Sao Paulo, same songs, same speechs, same everything; but it was great. They are AMAZING live.
Once Nickelback ended, Bon Jovi took a while to get out. About 30 minutes. I was really, really tired, my legs hurted, my back too and I needed to sleep, but once the band got out, nothing mattered anymore. They opened with That's What The Water Made Me and the people went crazy, like really crazy, more because of Jon than because of the song, but still. You Give Love a Bad Name followed and the people sang alone and kept moving, Jon couldn't help to smile, and it was an honest smile, you can tell when the son of a bitch is acting and when is genuine, this night, he was having fun, he interacted with the crowd and seemed like really happy to be there. Raise Your Hands was next, and I want to tell something about the chilean crowd: They don't move. Some of them do, and in some song they really sang and jumped, but in most of the songs they were standing, just looking, I ****ING HATE THAT, go to some seats if you want to stay quiet. Also, people told me "stop raising your hands", "you're too tall" (what the **** do you want me to do about it?), "why are you singing so much?" (W-T-F?) and "stop jumping". Everyone that knows me can tell that I'm not a troublemaker, if I raised my hands was in songs like... well, Raise Your Hands, if I jumped I didn't jumped to hit other people but jumped where I was standing, and I can't help to sing as I'M IN A ****ING CONCERT. The 40 year old girls were shouting "RICOOOOOOOOOOO" that is a chilean slag to something like "Sexy", they made my ears bleed.
Then Runaway came and most of the people stopped reacting, they didn't sang or anything, but the people that were against the fence (near to the band) were fans because they were jumping and moving their hands... that's where I wanted to get, and I did it, I spent most of the gig 6 people away from the fence. Really cool. With Lost Highway the wheel started turning again, the people sang the "hey hey". Whole Lot Of Leavin'was next and I was singing though the people near me were looking like "What's he playing?". Bobby started playing that song with distortion in his guitar, Jon went running and stepped on his pedal. With It's My Life the stadium went out of his mind, everyone, EVERYONE singing. Because We Can had a great response also, seems like it was kinda big in Chile. What About Now had zero reaction from the crowd.
That far, the crowd was pretty good, coulda been better, but it was good, and Jon was happy, you could see that on his face. People that said that he wanted to go as soon as possible or was acting the whole show had no idea what they're talking about or were too far to see the reactions of him and the band.
With We Got It Goin' On and Keep The Faith the stadium heated up! Everyone was raising their hands shouting "FAITH!" like it was some kind of choreography. Jon loves that kind of things and he deleted memory, he didn't wanted to cut the energy so he followed with some... rock? "CAPTAIN CRASH WHERE ARE YOU?!?!?!". The crowd went dead. Like really dead. I'm not saying that they calmed down a little bit, they almost died. Nobody was moving their hands, nobody sang, nobody did anything. Jon worked his ass of to get the crowd going with that crappy song and he finally made it. He puts so much effort to that song that makes me wonder why the **** doesn't he do the same with better songs.
Until Keep The Faith I was living a dream. I couldn't help to smile, I was jumping, singing, I was living my favourite band and it was waaaay better than I thought it would be: Jon's voice was rpetty good, the band didn't sound bad, but Jon's acoustic guitar that was too loud in the mix and the drummer sometimes ****ed up, but nothing too important. Oh, I forgot, in KTF I started laughing because of Bobby's orgasm faces, he putted his guitar on his crotch and started moving it with his face. Priceless.
But with Captain Crash everything changed, my legs started hurting again, my back too, my eyes too, I was so let down that I can't explain it. Follow was next, people didn't reacted, neither did I, Jon didn't even tried as it sucked, I started to get cold and I swear to god I started to yawn. Then IT'S ALL RIGHT, but nobody said anything, as somebody putted up here, he asked "Is this thing working?" as the crowd didn't knew the song. In that moment I said "What a shitty song", two old woman looked at me with anger. I'm not sorry, old lady, those words came from the bottom of my heart. Then I'll Sleep When I'm Dead knocked me out. That four songs together are shit, the crowd reaction was SO bad that they didn't do covers inside of it, they wanted to ended it as soon as they could.
With Bad Medicine the crowd got back into life, they started singing and with Shout... they jumped like there was no tomorrow, everyone hitting themselves, eeeveryone moved one way, eeeeveryone moved another. Really cool stuff! Before it was over, somebody raised a little banner, "In These Arms". And the band started the encore with that one. I love that song and started jumping, singing, people do it too, everyone there having fun. I was really near in that moment and it seems that I was near to people that were fans as they sang all the words. Hearing Dave sing was amazing, he has a great voice and it was like a dream. Really one of the best moments of the night.
Then, Born To Be My Baby (hi, yomammasofat), everyone jumping and singing "Na nara na nara na nara na na". Jon's face was priceless, I'll never forget it. Wanted was next and everyone sang, Jon said "I see you know this one" and made us start singing again. The crowd sang up to the first chorus. Jon was in love with the crowd.
Have a Nice Day didn't have the reaction I expected, before Prayer, some girls started shouting "ALWAYS" "AAALWAYS" and I started "THESE DAAAAAAYS", a girl also joined and we were "THEEEESE DAAAAAAAAAYS", it was like a shouting war, but then everyone started "Always, always, always". Jon does a "One more" sign to David, he says "Always?" and Jon answers "Always". But there was a lot of pollen in the air, Jon had his nose red like a tomato. Before starting with the song he said that tico "it's not doing so well" and he looked worried, he didn't said "Thank you for your patience" or neither that he was coming back this week or the next like in Rock In Rio, he said he'll be back when the doctors let him. He was saying thanks from his heart, and the Chilean people did that, so congratulations to them.
Some things to highlight: How nice the band sounded, yep, sometimes they didn't understand each other, but it was pretty good, Jon's voice was good almost all the gig. Bobby's guitar was too quiet in the mix, couldn't hear the solos well and he ****ed up sometimes like in the Have A Nice Day solo.
