I had lowered expectations considering Richies absence. But oh boy, did I enjoy myself! I loved the show and has to tip the hat for Phil. No one can blame the guy for not doing a good job as a replacement. Of all the guys Phil and David really was the ones who truly had a good time. I've never seen David so active on a show before.

Like Linnea said, Jon was a little off. He did put on a good show and truly got the crowd going but I couldn't see the glow in his eyes. And during Dry County it was very obvious he was struggling. I hoped for a long encore, but it was pretty obvious his voice was completely shot. In These Arms was a great closer, but I felt like one of the big ballads were missing. One of Bed of Roses, Always and I'll Be There For You could have made a huge difference.

Water Made Me was a great opener. I had looked forwardto hearing it and it went down great. Bobby had some problems with his guitar at the start, so no E-bow during the intro.

Blood on Blood was a nice surpise. My first thought was that they skipped Raiose Your Hands and went for Lost Highway straight away. I love the acoustic intro to Blood on Blood.

Because We Can was phenomenal live. The crowd really ate it up! Maybe it was from where I stood, but I really thought it had one of the nights best crowd responses. Also What About Now suprised me. I'm not much into it on album, but it worked great live and the crowd was really into it.

Also We Got It Goin' is fantastic live. Not a fan of it, but live it's pretty great. The crowd loves it!

The acoustic section was the biggest let down for me. I stood right in front of Jon out on the circle and the Memory/Saturday Night combo didn't work. I wish they could have swapped Saturday Night for Bed of Roses. The acoustic section didn't do much at all. Memory works better in an arena, and Saturday Night live does nothing acousticly, especially not in a stadium.

I don't know what happened next. After seeing the set list I see that I'll Be There For You was planned, but somehwat Jon didn't felt doing it and went back to the main stage and started Army of One. Don't ask me why. The crowd really craved one of the big ballads.

Army of One was the bigget letdown live for me. It sounded good, but the song completely killed everything after the acoustic set. Very few knows the song, and secondly, it's to slow to start up the audience. Runaway instead of Army of One would have started the party again, but no.

Born To Follow shocked me a little. After all the bullshit I've heard about how much it sucks live this tour I prepared for the worst, but the song really went down great. It really was a crowd pleaser and I'm happy they played it after Army of One. Who Says though was so dull live. No one cared about it. There were a female singer who joined Jon on stage though, but it didn't help.

Dry County was nice and even the Swedish newspapers hails the song as the best song of the night. Jon struggles, but still a suprise and Phil did a great job.

Have a Nice Day was electric live! Bobby really ****ed up the solo though, it was painful to listen to.
------------------------------------------------------------------------

Overall, I'm happy. I'd give to the show 3 out of 5. The show lasted a little over 2 hours and 30 mins. I did miss Richie, but not as much as I thought I would. David has really uppered his game and is shining and Phil did a really great job. I'm looking forward to the Copenhagen show, and hopefully the band have reharsed a couple of gems for the show after the break.
Thank you for your review. Glad you enjoyed the show somewhat.

Agreed. Like I said in my review, I thought he was on fire, and from where I was standing, people seemed to notice and appreciate it too. The acoustic part was the anti climax indeed, as I also wrote, and something I didnt say but that I defo agree with (noticed the same thing in 2011) is how much better WGIGO works live compared to studio. Great review, thanks

Was he improvising his keyboard parts or just being more animated? He was pretty subdued up until Richie left. Maybe Jon has told him to up his game to fill the gap.

I'm not gonna lie, I enjoyed the show alot. Yes, quite boring set if you look at it, no surprises really except DC.. BUT my expectations had been so low since Richies departure because:

1. I'd been sad and pissed off about the Richie thing in general, and had basically given up on having fun at the gig.

2. The pure fact that Richie wouldn't be there, his sound would be missed, his stage presence, chemistry with Jon etc..everything. He is my favourite Jovi member and one of my favourite guitarists in the world.

3. I was there in 2001 and the crowd sucked ass that time. Big ass.

....so therefor I went with no expectations of having a ball, but didn't want to bring my friend (who's a casual) down with me so I tried to be in a good mood either way.
Now.. I will be perfectly honest now, I was positively surprised. Maybe not with the set itself, very few surprises (and I thought there'd be something more after ITA), but this time I don't see how anyone who was there could say the crowd sucked. I thought the atmosphere was very good (I was GC front row at the catwalk, Hugh and Phil's side), and people around me both while standing in line and while in the staduim were still saying how they missed Richie in general and in specific songs. They could have been pissy the entire time, and same goes for me. However they weren't. I thought the new songs worked, surprisingly enough. Some people sang along to them even.. lol. Army of One sounded particularly good I think.
The dullest bits were imo CC (no surprise there) and acoustic Saturday Night. SIBSN is usually one of my favourite songs but it started off so weirdly right after MAM and people didnt realise what song it was until the chorus, because of Jon's slight mumbling.

There was a lumb in my throat at all the obvious Richie bits, the trademark solos and vocals that now obv had someone else all over them, and that goes for DC as well (greatest solo ever!!) BUT when David started that keyboard intro after the first break I basically broke down and cried outta happiness anyway. I haven't caught DC live before, and yes I get it... hearing it without Richie could be seen as being worse than not at all... but I still got that amazing feeling and no one can take that away from me. It's still the best Jovi song ever and in my top 10 songs in the world. Another nice part was that the people next to me seemed to feel the same. They were like omg no Richie... but they still had a happy-fit when DC came on.

So there, I enjoyed it alot. Might have been a dull set but my expectations had been so freakin low that I was like.. holy ****, they're still rocking my freakin socks, what's happenin!? And no, I did not think Jon sounded "particularly nasal this evening" as someone put it. He sounded like he usually does, but no super obvious low points imo. DC sounded strained in the beginning but other than that it sounded fine.

And yes sorry again for the wrong date in the thread title. I was typing on my phone while standing in line and the keys are so damn small. Didn't mean to do that.

ps: DAVID WAS ON FIRE (not literally )
I enjoyed your review. Thanks for taking the time to articulate your thoughts on the show.

Jon doesn't seem like a guy who's gonna start taking lessons after 30 years, he's probably like, "This is rock n' roll, this is what I got and I'm gonna work with it"
I can tell you just by watching him that his technique is non existent.
His registration is all out of whack, he doesn't breath properly for singing and he keeps pushing and straining and causing more and more problems for himself and us, the listening audience.
However, I don't think his voice is as shot as it may seem.
I really think he just needs to relearn everything from scratch, practice and do it right this time. Of course that's never gonna happen.
Just my opinion, but I think Jon will do whatever is necessary to prolong his career. When you struggle to do something you love, you will move heaven and earth to get back on your game.

After having read DryCounty´s review, I decided to comment the show in a few words more. I am obviously backing DryCounty´s views in here.

-Water really is a great opener. The band obviously enjoys performing it, too
-BWC was received very well in Stockholm, the crowd seemed to enjoy it a lot
-WGIGO works live, there is no denying. It rocked the stadium. No matter if it isn´t exactly a gem in their back catalogue. Jon jumping atop of the lights of that giant car was fun to watch.
-WWBTF worked suprisingly well, too. The pre-chorus keeps on making people pump their fists

Still, my biggest disappointment was the lack of Richie. The ending of Wanted felt sad without the guitar pose. I think Jon felt the absence of the magic, too.

And one more notion: I was quite amazed how solid and powerful Jon´s guitar playing was. On some tracks, his guitar was a lot more than just a prop. His playing sounds better than ever to my ears.

He wants songs that will be killer live more than a killer studio album. This is how I get it at least. I hope you got my point
^This^ I've always thought that Jon & Richie would write completely different songs if they were not an arena band. This is also probably why Richie profoundly liked writing for his own solo release = more personal and complex lyrics (except perhaps for Sugar Daddy--ha ha).

He has had vocal coaches in the past, why not now? I do think some of his problems are allergies and since the band "follows the sun" and plays in outdoor arenas, he is at the mercy of what's in the air plus the weather. He goes from sun to cold and rain to sun continually which has to play havoc on his voice and nasal passages.

Between the Circle tour and WAN he mentioned in an interview that he was taking guitar lessons. He uses the guitar now more and seems to be a more credible player. I don't think he has a problem upping his game; the problem is more his motivation: love or money?
