I find it very difficult to believe anyone actually thinks Jon sounded GOOD on the SWW tour. He could barely get any sound out. And these are the same people who think that he sounds bad now? That explains everything. You people have hearing problems. LOL

Have you heard the show from Cinicinatti in 87? It's the only bootlegg that I've heard off that tour, and he sounded fantastic. He sounded like the album. He sounds NOTHING like the album anymore.

Not saying he has a bad voice now, but you don't necessarily have to have a great voice to sound good.

Ah, that explains it. If that's the only bootleg you've heard from that show, you've got a decent one. I have dozens of shows from that tour and I can't even listen to most of them because Jon sounds like he's in so much pain it makes ME hurt to listen.

If he sounds like he did on the MTV awards that year, then yes, it was pretty bad.

I have a video from Quebec, and aside from Raise Your Hands, he sounds pretty good.

I assume you mean the clip of Prayer from the NY show on the tour that the band provided MTV with for use on the 1987 MTV Awards?

Not saying you are saying so....just replying in general to everyone on the steroid shots....they were done just to keep his voice going at all on the SWW tour, don't credit the steroids with anytime he actually sounded good. Cincinatti was during the first leg of the U.S. tour. Towards the Spring his voice started going to shit and by Summer it was gone.

Over half of the total number of times I've seen the band were on the SWW and NJ tours. There were nights on SWW when Jon sounded pretty good but alot of nights you could tell he was struggling to just get through, and he had no voice at all. Nj was better but he still had some pretty bad nights.

As for the acoustic thing, I would imagine that this set is for the arenas (indoor) shows over the winter, it isn't as likely they will do it in the stadiums where the show has to be BIG! I liked the show I saw in Minneapolis, If I remember right we got one hour fifteen or so acoustic, then about a ten minute break while they plugged in and then an hour and a half or so plugged in. It was a great show we got some cool different songs in the acoustic set, for you TD lovers this may be the only way you get to hear them, and I didn't mind it at all.

For very different reasons....on the SWW tour his voice went to hell precisely because he kept trying to delivery vocally as he did in the studio. Night after night, it killed his voice. Prior to and during the Jersey Syndicate tour, Jon had a voice coach that taught him to conserve his voice while also delivering. I always enjoyed hearing how he would approach the songs a bit differently, holding back in some spots while letting loose when you least expected it. It all balanced out.

Since 2000, he's walked through the performances, if he sounds bad, it's not because he spent the last 50 shows putting his all into his voice.
