BTW, ad libbing isn't a way to tell the audience they can't sing along. If you've sung the same song for 20 odd years, you might get tired of it and singing it differently is somewhat a change.
I know. I mean with Springsteen it is definitely both... he is someone who wants his fans to listen to his music and enjoy themselves and sing along, but there are times when he will completely ad lib or change the phrasing of the lyrics to keep one step ahead of the crowd... so that they hear what he has to say then and now on that day, which can sometimes be different to the original message intended for the studio...

with jon i think the adlibbing (if you listen) was a combination of making a mistake or forgetting the lyrics and also just changing it to make life fun...

i love the show - there are quite a few times where you can hear a mistake and jon giggling down the microphone whilst singing...

example blood on blood when he plays the wrong chord during the acoustic verses...

Isn't that the Japanese Culture?? - They tend to sit politely through songs & chap & clear at the end!?!?

Anyway I am really enjoying this show - only listened to half so far, but the Distance is amazing.

New riffs? Where? I just listened to it two times and I didn't hear anything out of the ordinary...

The band plays well, and I gotta say it's good to see that Dave and Richie get to sing in IBTFY.

Ice

Just in the beginning of the song when Dave plays that piano intro, Richie does that bluesy thing with his guitar.

He's been doing that for years...

And Mike, I know the culture, but shouldn't they even say something when Jon asks them a question? He must feel somewhat stupid asking "how are we doing so far?" and everyones silent... I know I would.

Most of them probably don't understand what he is saying

exactly...

Japanese is a language with nothing in common to English - very little.

They are better crowds for all bands though - and from what I gather virtually all bands love playing in Japan more than anywhere else - a) because the rock culture appreciates the music more than countries such as the UK (b) the culture etc and people (c) it's more of a challenge to play to an audience that expects rock music from you but does sit there in silence clapping at the end of the songs...

you know the band just love it though... who wouldn't

is this an audience recording?

Also.....detailed reviews on the production haven't been forthcoming.....we know there are lasers because of the pictures at the official site. Do you guys hear any Pyro going off in the show?

I suppose even if none is heard it doesn't mean they won't have Pyro in the US......even in the 80s, shows in Japan didn't have Pyro. I'm just hoping they finally bring back Pyro into their shows this time around...not just special gigs like Giants Stadium. It's been a while since they made use of it.

I could be wrong here but I believe the pyro stuff is only suitable for outdoor venues, hence the lack of them on the recent US gigs. In Europe in 2000/01 we got the pyro's at most gigs.

So, does Finnish have anything in common with English? Does Greek?

I don't think it's a matter of not understanding, since they do understand some of it. And besides, elsewhere people would scream even if Jon said something like "I think we're really bad tonight".

Probably the culture, or then they are just honest.

The fireworks used as seen in Keep the Faith and Lay Your Hands On Me at Giants Stadium 2001 are definately an outdoor thing only. But I'm not talking that level. In the US...pyrotechnics are regularly used in Arenas.....it just depends on the sort. Generally the pyro becomes more massive when it comes to Outdoor shows as their are less limits.....but usually the only difference is the pyro isn't confined to the stage as it is for Arenas. Oh well..i guess we will see.

What got me thinking they planned to bring pyro back as a standard in the US shows was the VH1 Medley. The pyro going off at the beginning of Bad Name hasn't been done since the Keep the Faith tour as far as I know. Pyro going off in Prayer before the outro Chorus hasn't been done since These Days. Plus I'd like to see some new ideas. Hook Me Up could easily have some impressive pyro. I'm hoping they make Hook Me Up the opening song on the US leg......well..in about a week we'll all know what is going on unless all we get as reviews are "Bon Jovi Rocked Last Night!!!"
