As for my other point, he has a youtube series where he plays guitars that are for sale nad just riffs and messes around. A few times he's played Richie's old flying V from the Bounce era and...I don't want to make it seem like he was a dick about it, it's just a matter of personal taste. I don't remember the exact phrasing, it's been awhile, but he mentioned not caring for the band's songs and referenced the old expression "Don't bore us, get to the chorus" or something. This doesn't mean a hell of a lot, it's a personal taste thing and a huge gig opportunity. But the dude ain't hard up for cash, he's a very much so in demand session player.

People should check out the Fretted Americana vids. He plays with way more soul than people think.
He played with Daughtry? Interesting. I've seen them twice (Once solo and once opening Bon Jovi on the LH tour) and assuming it was Phil I saw, he was great.

Phil X is not a touring member of Daughtry. I met Daughtry last year and have seen them three times before that and he is not a touring member.

Wasn't jumping at you or anything. Daughtry has become a very good live act indeed.

what makes anyone think he is playing better than richie. this is insane. he might be playing slightly differently, therefore it's appears fresher. but richie is a great guitarist, who has been playing bon jovi music for nearly 30 years.

maybe in another context the guy is better than richie, but from what we have seen, and from playing bon jovi music, there is no way in this world anyone can claim 'he is playing better than richie was'

??

I'm assuming your answering to what I posted so let me say that I'm a huge fan of Richie but he doesn't pull off the drunk guitarist thing well.

ok i see your point, and maybe tonight or the next few gigs will show that he might even be a better player than Richie. But, do you not think it is too early to say he is playing better, was richie really playing badly? surely jon would not put up with that, we all know what he is like.

at the end of the day, the way richie executes il be there for you, nobody can compete, not even johnathon himself!

i see your point dude, i just think the next few gigs, starting from tonight will show us what the guy is made of, and i think richies plays well most of the time anyway, drunk or not

There were definitely times where Richie's playing was off. When he would mess up LYHOM, I now wonder what if anything had he been drinking. I think they both have different styles and bring different things to the table. It would be interesting to hear Phil play Always or DC. I think he came close to replicating Richie on some songs. I closed my eyes as I heard the YT clips to see if I could tell the difference and in some ways I couldn't. At the end of the day, Richie is the heart of the band in my eyes and I want him back.

I can't picture Phil on the circle with Jon though.
