Don't forget a torch that can stay lit every moment until Richie comes back.

Seriously, this is just over-analyzation to the extreme. The production, sound, visuals, and lighting, are set up to have the members in certain positions. To have moved Phil out of Richie's stage positioning would have meant time-consuming and pointless changes to the tech setup.

I agree with what Terri said in regards to at times Phil X seems - "too restrained" - too aware of where Richie's position was, on stage, etc.

In person, he brings in a breath of fresh air and if his guitar work on songs like BOR are not like Richie's - maybe it's because he has not been playing those songs for all the years that Richie has. Give the guy a break. He's done extremely well, under some tough circumstances.

I wish that they would bring Phil X out a bit more and move Bobby back a lot more.

Plus, IMO, if they really respected Richie as a brother and a band mate, this leg of the tour would have been canceled, period.

Instead, the CEO made the executive/business decision of going on with this leg of a tour, with a substitute for Richie, it's not the substitute's fault, but the CEO's fault/responsibility. Although, I do think that Jon made a good choice, after all there are not many good guitarists, out there, who would be able to fill in and/or be available, *at the last minute*, (and obviously, under a ton of pressure), that could handle things, both musically and from the critics, as well --- as Phil X has.

Just maybe, when he has more practice and experience, the CEO will allow him to be less restrained, and even allow him to move closer to the front, out of the shadows ...

Dare I say that I think they should keep Phil X even after Richie is back ...

Bobby should go, as I said in another thread.

Yes, you're correct, of course. I'll blame my mistake on the two year old running around the room, chasing the dog, while I'm trying to type something that sounds intelligent.

LOL ...

Trust me, I totally understand. Didn't mean to come off snarky.

Somewhat related (not really), but while discussing stage positions, what lead guitarists besides Richie stand on the RIGHT side of the lead singer (left side to the fans). I've noticed that many bands have the guitarist on the left side of the singer (right to the fans).

And I think Phil is perfect where he is. If he was in the back along with Bobby, it would look even MORE like a solo act. I wish Hugh was back up front...

Europe in the 80s had Norum and then Marcello on the singer's right hand. It has changed when they returned in 2004.

What I was thinking about... how cool would be to keep Phil X with the band for the rest of the tour when Richie is back he could stay where Bobby is right now, Bobby would go back to where he belongs. Imagine the Lay Your Hands On Me jam with Richie and Phil soloing..... omfg, rock'n'roll!!!!

I assume I'm not the only one thinking people would be pissing and moaning about it becoming the Jon Bon Jovi show if Phil was pushed further back?

Here's an idea that serves me well, don't watch youtube, don't read setlist, in fact don't look in show threads at all and then the opportunity to over analyse everything disappears straight away.
