Maybe Jon's movements are what makes the difference where people percieve it as more or less energetic?? Dunno....
what does that mean its played to a click track??

Nothing beats Prayer as an opener. I've experienced it twice (O2 2007, Twickers 2008 ) and both times it went down great. At Twickers, I got Prayer as an opener and Dry County Should've gone to Manchester though

I think Prayer is a good occasional opener but I think that it doesn't fit the current scheme - with this type of intro etc. After the intro, still hidden behind the screens, they need start with a kickin' riff. I wish they tried Hey God as opener on this tour!!

that clicking sound they use in order to maintain the same beat through out te song. They use it in the studio to make editing easier and more precise, but the songs that require a backing track when played live (IML, Prayer, HAND, Bounce etc...) also use it. That's why they are always played at the same pace.....

I was at both of them and remember it very well I hadn't been reading setlists in the previous weeks, so I had no idea what they were going to do those nights, it was great

ok this is fascinating to me - i KNEW they were doing something with IML on the harmonies because no one was singing them...

are you sure they are using backing tracks? - can you be more detailed...is it vocals, electronica effects, something else? i understand the click tracks but i really didnt think (or didnt want to think) that they were being used live....this will have a big impact on me....

so any teaching you can provide would be great - thx again for all the info!

Some musicians also use pre-recorded backing tracks with additional parts such as synthesizers, strings or layered background vocals to recreate parts that would be impractical to play live, in which case a click track synchronized with the backing track is played through headphones or in-ear monitors to keep the musicians in sync with the backing track.
It's pretty common actually.
