presale tickets

jw......how good are presale tickets usually? because at ticketmaster it said that you could very well get better tickets from the public sale sometimes, and my boyfriend also brought up the point of whether or not presale tickets would be good, or the "crapier" seats. i've never bought presales before and i was just curious....thanks
