I went to 3 of the Newark- Prudential Center shows, as I live only 10 miles from Newark, and each and every one of the shows I attended were sold out. I mean even if the numbers state 138,000/140,000- those are still excellent numbers, but I didn't see any empty seats when I attended the 3 shows.
Obviously he did really well, otherwise him and his band wouldn't have embarked on this world tour they are currently doing. I don't think Jon is suffering all that bad. I am seeing them at MSG both nights as well as Central Park- if they are playing there, which I believe they will be.
Anyhow, Bon Jovi is a great band- one of the greatest in my opinion, and they still put on a excellent show. I mean you see a lot of bands that were great back in the 80s that are still performing now, and they only put up maybe 11 or 12 songs- as they co-headline with another band that can't sell out by themselves. Bon Jovi however has supporting acts at some shows that come on for maybe a half-an-hour, if that, and then are finished to have Bon Jovi perform 2 1/2 or more hours full of hits. Bon Jovi isn't a reunion band, and they really have stood the test of time well. How much longer will they be able to go on like this? Selling out arenas and stadiums? Who knows, but they aren't that old, and I believe they won't be slowing down anytime soon.
~ As an example- look at Def Leppard. They are a great band, one of my favorites, but you don't see them playing arenas and stadiums anymore. As a matter of fact, they play venues that can hold maybe 7,000 or 8,000 people? There are venues in Europe that hold about 2,000, if that, and they also play them. There are exceptions of course. PNC Bank Arts Center is a large venue, holding about 18,000-20,000 people, and I have been to PNC where Def Leppard and Journey played, and it was sold out. Now in order for these bands to do that, they need to co-headline- which means they simply each play 11 or 12 songs and then let the next act come on. Co-headlining is similar to a one headlining act, similar to Bon Jovi, who would play 24 + songs.
Anyhow, glad I could be a part of Jovi Talk. As you can see, I enjoy chatting and could really spark on conversation! =)
