I think that not having Richie on stage may have been a good wake up call for Jon. His voice doesn't sound too different (neither better nor worse) than recent years but at least he had to make up for Richie's absence; singing more on Wanted and I presume not relying on Richie's vocal strength for choruses etc as much (could be wrong on the last point, although hoping).

As for Bobby... I saw him first playing for Southside in 2000 and he was a superb guitarist there, both as rhythm and lead. I then saw him just with Southside doing an acoustic set where we were sat on the stage and again he was phenomenal. With BJ in 2006 he was just average, but then he was meant to be as a 'backup guitarist'.

I wasn't at the show, but based on the You Tube clips, I think it is very poor of him to play the way he did. We all know his Richie and the last thing you want are studio copycat solos of BTMBB, Bad Name etc but he just seems to screw up every solo. BJ are famous for their short burst solos - I think they only have a handful that last more than 20-30 seconds and the songs have been carefully structured (usually) to capture a lot of power into those 30 second solos. What Bobby did was just to waddle through them as if he's still playing rhythm guitar. I'm sorry, but when I was 11 years old I could have done much better guitar work and I just think that given the occasion he should have stepped up and given it that bit more and respected the solo structures in the songs. I'm sure noone agrees with me but it's my opinion.

For the setlist I think that is a good showcase of the new album (which I absolutely hate and think is their worst album to date). I know that if I was around for KTF, NJ, SWW etc I would have loved to have got 3/4 of the album played live in promo shows. In terms of the setlist length, 1hr45 isn't bad for a promo show compared to what they usually do. However, I do think that they could have made an exception given the circumstances and the fact they hadn't been to PR for a concert in such a long time - I suppose in that sense it was a shame that they chose to play now and not in maybe 3 months time.

I don't know the circumstances of the promo show but I hope it means that they stretch the tours out a little more. In Europe I don't expect them to all of a sudden start playing Greece or Luxembourg but it would be nice for them to play more than just UK, Germany and Holland. On a wider context it would be nice if, only occasionally, they touch Asia, S America - it makes it much more interesting to follow as a fan!

But just a slight correction, Bon Jovi did a show in Puerto Rico on the New Jersey tour in 1989 in the Hiram Bithorn Stadium. So it was the first concert since 1989. Just some slight correction. Great site btw.
Thanks for the 1989 update. I've corrected it on my page. And thanks again for the pic. Truly, without all the Bon Jovi fans' contributions, my site would be pretty empty.

No, I agree with you. I can only speculate as to why he played how he played but one would think he could/would have played something closer to the Richie solo's. I still give the guy props for doing what he's doing. It can't be easy and those are VERY big shoes to try to fill.

Sadly though, I missed him a hell of a lot, and as great as the show was all I could think about was how great it would have been had Richie been there.

Jon joked about it being almost 20 years since they last came to Puerto Rico saying he was 12 years old at the time (yeah right!!) The setlist was pretty similar to the vegas setlist but more songs added. Out of the new album they played Lost highway, Whole lotta leavin' , MAM, I love this town, We got it going on in the main set. And on the encores they played Any other day and The last time. Any other day is amazing live, I was the only one in my section singin it (SUCKERS!!!). Is that the first time they played this songs live electric??

Any way, seeing drunk guys wabble their heads during I love this town is funny. I was waiting for HAND live, but they didn't play I guess for tunung reasons they need two guitars in there oh well. The talk box was not used the entire night (maybe out of respect for Richie) but Bobby did what he could with the wah pedal for IML and WGIGO, and for prayer he muted the verses, though he was barely audible. Now that we are on the subject of Bobby and Richie let me just say that I found a new respect for Bobby Bandiera, no he did not sound as good as Richie and it was weird seeing him in Richie's spot. But the man gave his all up there, sometimes the solo's sucked I'm not gonna lie, BTBMB was bad, as where wanted and a few others But on a whole I really found a new respect for Bobby. It's not easy to fill Sambora's shoes, and he probably didn't want to, he was just stepping up to the occasion that he was needed to step up and he proved to be a caring dude and not let the band miss a concert because of it. The mentions of Richie were nice, during band introductions Jon mentioned the "ghost of Richie Sambora who's gonna be back better than ever don't you worry" and that got a big cheer.

The band on a whole awesome and Tico apparently took Richie's spot and Bon Jovi's second favorite because he was lat in band intro's and Jon took the longest to introduce him. Jon is very very cocky, but he was very mobile on stage, something I've critisized about it recently. As Wanda said he dedicated Wanted to Richie, I hope Richie gets better soon and they come back to PR on the 2008 tour, the show itse;f was sold out, and people where standing from first song to last (at least that's the impression that I got). I hope that motivates them to come back next year or soon enough, if not I'm determined to travel, I just want to see the band with Sambora.

Wanda: I was very nice meeting you too. I only wished we had talked more.
i'm going to agree 110% with ur review

It was a weird but great show... it would have been AWESOME with Richie there, but the rest of the guys came out ready to try and not dissapoint. Bobby cant fill Richie's shoes (let's face it no one can) but given the situation he was in, i say he got the job done.

Javier: i tried looking for u after the show, but u were already gone. It as too funny trying to find you at first, cause i looked at u but i wasnt sure it was u

I'm still uploading my pix to my pc, but i'll share them as soon as i'm done
