Default Really GREAT review from Manchester Online

...and I couldn't agree more ...S.

http://www.manchesteronline.co.uk/en...ory=61676.html

HIP HOP may well be dominating the modern music market, but when it comes to the crunch, rock still rules the roost, and nobody better encapsulates what it is to be megastars than super-group Bon Jovi.

They may have a few more wrinkles on their faces these days, but, if anything, these New Jersey natives have just got better with age.

And anybody questioning that need only have witnessed the scenes of mass hysteria at a jam-packed Old Trafford last night. Can 50,000 people, from six-year-old girls to 60-year-old grandads, be wrong?

A staggering 20 years have passed since Bon Jovi first caught the eye of an unsuspecting public, but their passion for live performance has not diminished one jot. And neither has that of their cavalry of fans.

Stadium rock may be on the wane, a worryingly sad occurrence brought about by the music industry's insistence on churning out manufactured drivel week after week.

But so long as the likes of Jon Bon Jovi, Richie, David and Tico are around, it will never disappear without trace. Or so at least we hope.

Bon Jovi is all about shameless good fun. This is music guaranteed to put a smile on your face, and if you can't have a good sing-along and a laugh with Jon, then there's something definitely wrong with you.

Blasting out monster hit after monster hit, from Livin' On A Prayer to Keep The Faith, to the terrific, if wholly silly, Bad Medicine, Jon had the crowd in raptures. He is the consummate showman, with a voice to boot, and not a bad sense of humour either.

Revealing himself to be a secret Manchester United fan, the 41-year-old heart-throb quipped: "Posh Spice says to me: `Can you bend it like Beckham?' I say: `Baby, I can tie the knot'."

David Beckham may well have departed for Real Madrid, but, for one night only, the Theatre of Dreams was treated to the delights of a very different kind of legend, one we can only hope will come back soon.

Somebody my Dad knows went last night, and they thought it was the best concert they've ever seen, but have only seen Jovi the once (last night).

If you didn't know the set, and you've never seen them before I can understand how the show would have been good....

Other than Runaway, the set was boring for anybody who's seen them on the last few tours, and things like LYHOM, Wild in the Streets, Blood on Blood, Blaze, e.t.c were all missed.

Lets face it its not about you. 99.9% of the fans from these set lists go home very happy and thats what counts not you who thinks there infinitly wise and all seeing no offense but if you dont like it DONT GO youve saw the setlists from past concerts so you knew what to expect....so going then moaning is rather sad

0.1% of 50,000 people is 50... there were more than 50 people who were disapointed with the sets. I'd say probably somewhere closer to 2,000, and after that I'd say probably at least 10,000 have seen them before, so would want to see more changes. So that's closer to 20% who would have enjoyed the show more.... Aside from which, just take the people who either know the sets, or have been to a previous show, I'd say it's probably about 5%, so they would have noticed differences, and it would have made the concert more special. Certianly 5% is a minority, but come on, if it's 0.01% the band should still be going for it. Especially when there woudln't be anybody who would be disapointed with changes in the set, as on the whole they wouldn't know there have been changes!!!! The band should be going after everybody, trying to make it special for everybody, and changing the set would do that. Maybe they got to 80% and made it the greatest concert they've seen, but put in the variations, play longer and they'd be getting into the 95%'s, that's what they should be going for

When I join the group I have the right to make the set list, when I pay money to see the group I have the right to complaine about the setlist...

If Bon Jovi had have said before hand, we're going to be playing a basic setlist, with no improvisation on things like Faith, we're going to be doing short sets, and there are going to be few if any changes in songs between shows, then I woudln't have gone to two concerts!

They still go on about being a 'bar band who play big bars', still accept all the 'Jon does the set 20mins before the show', and still consider themselves to be a live band... If you ask me they havn't lived up to what a BON JOVI concert promises.... The concert was obviously very good, better than 99% of other concerts you'll see, but by Bon Jovi's standards it was poor.
