Default Remember 1997 Jon Solo Tour?

Just spent a few days working over the VHS that the Backstage fanclub sold us at the 10thanniversary bash back in 98. Jon did a solo promo gig for Mexican TV and radio and then they sold 100 copies of the VHS to fanclub members at the bash. I spent alot of time improving the washed out hissy audio on this and really found a new appreciation for these songs and this mini tour. Anybody else ever fall in like with some Jovi long after it was released?

A little more info for those who are curious, heck I might even put a bit on Youtube. Absolutely not for sale, etc.

ENJOY!!

Jon Bon Jovi - 1997-10-07 - Mexico City,Mexico - Foro Ideal Pro Shot Audio Improved DVD Master

Total Time:58 minutes, 59 seconds

The Band:
Jon Bon Jovi - guitars, lead vocals
Bobby Bandierea - guitars, backing vocals
Hugh McDonald - bass, backing vocals
Everett Bradley* (see show notes below) - percussion, backing vocals

The Setlist (all acoustic):
Announcer
Love for Sale
Every Word Was a Piece of My Heart
Livin' on a Prayer
Midnight in Chelsea
Janie, Don't Take Your Love to Town
Bed of Roses
Ugly
Knockin' on Heaven's Door
Destination Anywhere
Blood on Blood
Wanted Dead or Alive

Show Notes:
Jon's "Dallas Sucks" takamine is prominently featured throughout.
Several Spanish "hootchie dancers", gyrate through Midnight in Chelesea at the front of the stage.
* I assume that Big E is in the dark at the back of the stage for basically the whole show because the plexiglass isolation panels for the percussion area reflected the stage lights too much for the cameras filming the TV show. I feel pretty safe in assume he is hiding back there as he was the percussionionist for for most if not all of this tours gigs and the backing vocals sound exactly like his on other recordings.
Enjoy this show as it is probably the best document from this tour.

Source Footage Notes:
This Fanclub VHS was sold only at the 10th anniversary bash for Backstage with Jon Bon Jovi on August 28th, 1998 in Eatontown, New Jersey. There were 100 copies made and all were sold at the show which had 300 guests for $50.00 USA each. I bought my copy that night from the fan club directly. The audio on this was originaly very quiet with very loud tape hiss and had some other problems as well. This version has been "fixed" with the result of being much more enjoyable to listen to. The video portion has been essentially untouched.

Editing Work Notes:
Lineage: Fanclub VHS > Panasonic AG-7350 SVHS > S-video and dual RCA > Panasonic DMR-EZ485V > DVD to workstation > edits as below > DVD > Rip to workstation > share

I remember his show at the Grosse Freiheit in Hamburg. The hottest show I ever was and I mean the temperature in the venue, not Jon. According to the newspapers nearly 100 % humidity and temperatures like in a sauna. The water dropped from the ceiling.

But a good show.

yeah the fanclub also sold a cassette of the Detroit radio broadcast for $25.00 each and sold all 200 of those as well
that's 75.00 US for a vhs and cassette in 1997 dollars, but I think tickets were another 150.00 each
ah good times

So they have always ripped off their fans - it's not just a recent greed grab? I wasn't a fan of their solo stuff at that time so I wasn't involved.

Nice!

I've been to his show in Mannheim, 1998, where I heard "Hush" and "[Just] Older". It was quite a good show and I was really into the DA album at that time. Now I don't listen to it much, but when I do, especially on nightdrives, I really enjoy it. "Queen Of New Orleans" is still my favourite.
And I really like the acoustic versions he released as b-sides back then. Talking about b-sides, "Talk To Jesus" is an incredible tune!

I'm not a defender of the fan club, but that trip was well worth the mere $150 for the ticket. They gave us a gift bag that had over $150 worth of merchandise in it including a for real autographed calendar. The party was classy and seeing Jon perform that acoustic set in such a a small setting was a once in a lifetime experience... plus we got to hear all the Sex Sells demos and comment on them.

I honestly don't remember the video and audio tape being sold at those prices. I came home with them and I have no recollection at all of spending THAT much money on them.

I went to the gig at the Forum in London - severe cloud of weed smoke inside the venue, and came out somewhat high. Great night too.....

Show was recorded for MTV too (they tossed out a load of glowsticks!) - I have a copy of it somewhere. Also have the live bootleg CD recordings.

On a slight side not, that was the first night my wife and I were at the same gig...... can see both of us on the recording, only metres apart. We didn't actually meet for another 4 years!

Remember that concert well, but only because I couldn't go. It was due to be my first ever concert, but I had a GCSE English exam the very next day so I couldn't have gone. Given the amount of annotations I did that night on Lord Of The Flies, it was probably a good job I didnt go, and ended up going to see Richie at Shepherds Bush the following year as my first gig. Didn't stop me being insanely jealous watching it on MTV though!
