Aloha !
Bash this review all you want, but the writer has some serious points:

Credit for that goes mainly to front man Jon Bon Jovi, a consummate showman who is willing to shake his butt, play the clown or do whatever it takes to sell a song."

So true. Jon shakes his ass and people scream. Jon kisses someone in the audience, and people scream. Jon sings his ass off and an American crowd is dead. That American crowd, dominated by middle-aged females.

Bon Jovi currently finds itself in the very awkward position of trying to be too many things to too many people. It's definitely trying to woo the "American Idol" crowd and charm the "new country" cats. The group wants to keep its classic-rock fan base happy, but at times Jon Bon Jovi seems to be auditioning for a Broadway play. The result in San Jose was a jumbled mess of material that the group really had no chance in rising above.

It's the rock / pop / country mess that never completely works nowadays. You always need a rock song in the set to keep things going but as soon as everything is working the momentum is killed with one of their poppy songs like Complicated, Story Of My Life or Everyday. The same goes for the country, ahem, Nashville-Influenced songs. Make A Memory kills the momentum, as does Summertime, as does Lost Highway (worst opener ever?).

The absolute worst moment was "We Got It Going On," a disco-Western hybrid that has no place in either genre.

Spot on. The song is embarassing and is only saved by the talkbox solo. Not Jon Bon Jovi asking for the crowd to scream.
That half a dozen reference reads like sarcasm to me, saying that half of what Bon Jovi does nowadays is mediocre. And he's right about that too. This review reads like how many, many European fans think about the band, and why many, many European fans have lost interest in Bon Jovi. They don't care about the poppy/country shite the band releases, exactly because it sounds like a mess and results into shit shows.
Salaam Aleikum,
