It sounds like so many years of listening to Tico has spoiled you, too, LOL!
When
Undiscovered Soul came out, I liked it fine, but it lacked something that
Stranger In This Town had had. It nagged at me so, I started playing
Stranger and solved the mystery within five minutes: Richie hadn't used Tico on
Undiscovered Soul.
I blame my upbringing -- listening to jazz, blues, and R&B gave me a preference for drummers who are more interested in laying down the beat than "supplementing" what their bandmates are doing. As I turned to rock music, it was drummers like Ringo Starr and John Bonham and Noel Redding and Bill Ward and Jean-Paul Gaster who stood out. As for Tico, remember the fight BJ has at the beginning of
Access All Areas? He was mad because he thought they hadn't listened to him!
I'm glad Richie realizes he needs a brisk, punchy drummer, especially if he's going to be covering Bon Jovi songs -- oops, I mean, especially if he's going to be playing the songs that he wrote for Bon Jovi!
