Default Richie on the new tunes...

Hey all!!
Does anyone else get the feeling that Richie's playing has ben kinda sloppy when the band play the new tunes?? Is may be just me, but the solo's he's played on the new songs have been far from perfect and have lacked energy. He now pulls off "we weren't born to follow" very well, but when they began playing it he barely pulled off the lick at the beginning. On other songs like Blood on Blood he plays them fine, even the old songs they began rediscovering like Roulette.

I may just be nitpicking here, it's just that I admire the guy so much, and on the MSG DVD he was pretty much on fire! I just don't know why his playing suffers on the new songs.

On a serious note I have to say that most of the modern day solos are pretty pointless to be honest. I've always said when you've got someone like Richie in your band you need to utilise that. I can't remember a recent song that had a Sambora-esque solo in it. I think I have to go as far back as Next 100 Years off Crush. Maybe Richie is just getting bored playing these pointless solos. It's almost as if it's a set rule that a song has to have a solo.

I hope they film the **** out of this tour much like These Days with multiple Pro shot sources from varying points in the tour that show the progression. It's going to be worth documenting. I haven't been this excited about a tour since These Days.

He seems to have upped his game - but even on the Grammy's he f ucked up the opening Who Says You Can't Go Home. He should be able to play that in his sleep.

Some of us conspiracy theorists here think the reason for this long tour is Jon trying to keep Richie occupied. Obviously we could be wrong but I agree with your initial post. Richie just seems off sometimes.

Then he pulls out a solo like Thorn in My Side and shuts everyone up.

yeah I remember that performance, and it seemed odd to me that on the bands appearance on Inside the actors studio Jon took the solo on prayer and David the one on Wanted, plus Richie looked horrible on that show for some reason...

Even though I have no doubt that those guys love each other, I highly doubt Jon has put himself in the position of being Richies "babysitter", the big tour must have other reasons, but maybe that factor influenced them in making that decision...
