I disagree with everything you've just said. Obviously this can only be based on one's own experiences, and in my experience the average Bon Jovi fan does not know who Richie Sambora is. My next door neighbour has seen Bon Jovi 10 times and when in conversation I mentioned Richie Sambora's solo album to him his reply was "who?". At the shows I've been too I've overheard many people refer to "going to see Jon Bon Jovi" or "I hope
he plays ...". I even heard (while in pretty expensive seats at the 02, where one would assume to find real fans) "why is Jon letting the guitar player sing?".
And I also disagree that Richie's tour was a disappointment. You mentioned the great performances so why was the tour disappointing? He's not solely responsible for his PR machine, surely the mark of a good tour is playing awesome shows?
Even for the people who do know who he is, none but the real die hards would care to see Richie play a lesser known solo song of his. Don't get me wrong, I would love Richie to play a lesser known song, but it's just not up to him. I'm just hoping we'll see the return of Richie actually getting a song, on the last two shows I saw he didn't even get to sing I'll Be There For You, Lay Your Hands On Me etc. A petition will make bugger all difference.
