Thanks to the improvements in staging and audio that resulted in a better-polished third Brazilian show, I can evaluate the role of the O in RSO more definitively.
I couldn't agree more that Orianthi should absolutely not be singing verses of Bon Jovi's most sacred songs, especially since she doesn't have auto-tuning to hide behind. I think it would be more useful to RSO for O to concentrate on singing what Richie used to sing for Jon more competently.
As for her guitar playing, I can't tell if she's supposed to be half of a lead-splitting team, like Joe Perry and Brad Whitford; or the designated backup, like James Hetfield or Izzy Stradlin. They should be doing a much better job of filling each other's "holes" -- especially since that's something Richie and Dave used to brag about being so good at.
The problem with RSO is that O is still coming across as -- well, nothing more than R's
girlfriend, an alpha groupie who gets to have the best seat in the house and occasionally contribute a riff or verse.
