FYI, you guys have missed the very first episode of "The Red Pants Saga"
It all started

But it wasn't just their singing that hit a flat note, with viewers also criticising the dress sense of 57-year-old Sambora, who wore 'offensive' bright red pants.

Then several Richie fans made fun of this and tweeted about not caring about the way he dresses, saying (paraphrasing): "you can wear red pants, blue pants, black pants, no pants, whatever you want, we still love your music".
Unfortunately Richie misunderstood one of those tweets. He obviously thought the girl hated him so much she even criticized the way he dressed that's why he replied so harshly in his first tweet (not reproduced here. He basically told her to stop texting him if she didn't like his music) -which was inappropriate, although understandable.
Then some fans told him he shouldn't have been so mean to her because she was only 14 yo and a fan trying to show him her support but since she's Italian and doesn't speak English very well, she used an online translator to tweet and was misunderstood, most likely because Richie hadn't seen the very first tweet mentioning his "offensive bright red pants" and thus missed the allusion.
He then tweeted again explaining he didn't get mean. And the Aussie press reproduced his tweet.
End of the Red Pants Saga.
Disclaimer: I'm not defending Richie, I think he shouldn't have tweeted at all, but I can understand he was pissed off.
