Thumbs up

I said exactly the same thing to my other half, yes he's trying to get an E Street band kinda thing going, but those guys have been playing together for years and know each other so well musically, you can't get that after a few quick rehearsals. I see what he's trying to do, but it's not working....

By their definition surely Bon Jovi should have retired in 1996!?

Each to their own though...
Bad Company aren't just about Paul Rodgers voice though. The band are just too old. It was like watching a retirement home rocker night. There was no crowd interaction and they looked happy to take the money and run.

And when I read that a few years ago Bruce couldn't play the guitar like he used to because of a numbness in his fingers caused by his cervical vertebrae being damaged, I more than ever encourage you to be wiser and think twice before you state "Richie's just an old drunk" because we don't know anything.
Just sayin'.

I think you're being very positive in regards to Richie's behavior but it seems quite naive to think that a man with a history of alcohol abuse who is acting drunk isn't drunk.

Do you not think with all the rumours and talk of his drinking that he'd not come out and say he was suffering from an illness rather than continue to see his reputation tarnished?

I'd be the last person to make unfounded remarks about Richie's behaviour but it's quite obvious what's happening with him.

Exclamation

None of the others were ever showman though, that's always been Paul's role in the band, which he still carries off admirably (including plenty of crowd interaction). You can't knock the tunes, his voice or the musicianship. But, like I said each to their own.

For one thing, Richie should watch those guys and realise how tight they are as a unit compared to his lot...

No, you misunderstood me. All I'm saying is that "you never know". And I say that as a CEO in the entertainment business who deals with all kinds of artists on a daily basis. I've seen many having their reputation tarnished for no reason other than hatred and narrowmindedness over the years. And let me assure you that they prefer being tagged as drunkards than sick or handicapped people (think of Michael Jackson and Prince for example). And when I worked for record companies, I had access to the kind of info that the general public never hear about, including the health records of artists (because of insurance clauses). Believe it or not but when for example so-and-so would put on weight drastically because of a medical treatment and the public would fat-shame them for eating and drinking too much, said artists would ask (beg) their PR agents and staff to communicate on their supposed bad eating habits so that the public wouldn't know the truth, ie that they were sick.

I'm not saying that Richie is drunk or sober, I don't know, I'm only saying that we don't know the situation and rumors are just rumors, they may be true or not. To me, it seems quite naive and oversimplistic to think that a man with a history of alcohol abuse who is acting drunk is drunk just because he has a history of alcohol abuse. I know better than judge a book by its cover.

The whole thing in Leeds was sloppy. The keyboard player wasn't up to any kind of standard, guitar changes were slow and unprofessional and trying to jam and riff around crowd-favourite songs killed off any positives that could've been gleaned from RSO. Using a professional gig as a jam session undervalues the audience in these circumstances and if they carry on down a similar path the whole UK tour will have been a wasted opportunity (or just an opportunity to get wasted, depending on what you believe!). London 2012 was thrilling and 4yrs further on I'm not sure any road leads back to the Richie of then.

Personally I enjoyed Bad Company although the staging looked extremely cheap and was pretty uninspiring. Good tunes, sound musicianship and vocals that seemed to hit the right notes.

Wasn't *that* bad. But I still can't understand why the drummer (in fact I think all drummers he's used on his solo tours up until now) just plays a straight beat in Wanted, instead of the "1-2" bass drum beat that's orginally in the song. But maybe that was Jon's idea

Are you a drummer? You're the only poster I've seen on here (apart from me) that has noticed this. It's nothing major but kinda sums up Richie in recent years. Alright but not quite what it should be.
