I know you're saying that from the point of view of not being a fan of his solo stuff, so 2 years to do that = 2 years with no new Jovi stuff, but if Richie does an album, Jon's bound to do one in that time too.

Or maybe that's not where you're coming from.
It's more like if Richie takes ANOTHER two years for his Chinese Democracy, then you're looking at 2 years with no new Jovi record waiting for Richie's to come out plus another 1-2 years for Richie to promote it. History tells us there's more likely to be 4-5 years between band albums (NJ-88 & KTF-92; TD-95 & Crush 00) and 3-4 years between band "world" tours (90-93; 96-00).** If that happens, they'll all be 50 and older when they hit the road again, so how many more years will they really want to go on anyway? Also, they'll be separated doing other stuff next year instead of touring in celebration of their 25th anniversary (the first CD was released in January 1984.)

History shows Richie doesn't have great luck with touring. He paid for the SITT tour out of his own pocket and the record company didn't back him in touring for Undiscovered Soul either. Usually solo albums coincide with a drought of tour dates from Jon and Richie and the band. Both played very few shows in support of solo albums.

**Yes, I know that Richie's solo albums were not the only reason it took so long and Bruce Fairbairn's death and the selling out of the record company contributed significantly to the delay between These Days and Crush. However, my standpoint is that I'd rather have band material than ANY solo material because I really enjoy live shows and am much more likely to get that when the band is working as a unit.

I would like that, and it's very possible. Good idea

A lot of people are waiting desperatley for another solo-album and tour. But unfortunately this won't happen any time soon. He can't get into competiton with himself and the next project is the Greatest Hits album. As Becky said, his album is ready at least since the HAND tour but he can't publish it when BJ are active. He said in an interview before the HAND tour that he wants to finish it before he starts touring with BJ.

Actually Richie and Jon didn't play only a very few shows but quite a lot. Esp. Jon who originally said that he doesn't want to tour DA. Probably because of the big success in Europe he changed his mind. And Richie toured Europe, Australia and Japan.

A new soloalbum, bluesbased with a lot of "oh, my wife has left me with the blues" would be great I'm still waiting for that song you know. Couldn't find it on Lost Highway! Disapointed!

I think another Richie record might be sooner than we expect. Maybe i'm reading too much into his comments but it sounds like he'd much rather do a solo record than a BJ record at the moment.

I remember somebody on here who bumped into him @ the UK HOF thing in 2006, asked him if there was a solo album coming soon, and he said that it was all BJ at the moment... and this person said he sounded disappointed about that.

I suppose it depends on your definition of "a lot." I wouldn't consider what either of them did to be "a lot."

It's kinda one of those things where I'll be psyched when it actually happens but until then I can't get my hope up because in one interview he will say this (From Billboard):

Quote:
"We need to take a little bit of a breather and decompress, and then we'll get back together and see what's going on,” he says. “Jon and I, we start woodshedding, we start writing pretty quickly. There's lots of other stuff to do, but Bon Jovi's the number one priority, no matter what."
But then he can say stuff like this:

Quote:
Thoughts have not yet turned to the follow-up to Lost Highway, Richie admits:
"Because of our tour schedule and everything else, it's really hard to write on the road. We've got to get away from each other and live our own seperate lives and do our own separate projects to be able to come back with something fresh for the new record."
Quote:
Richie added: “As you grow up it’s very important to have individual enrichment. We’re a great big organisation that moves around and you need to step outside for a while and be your own person. We all support each other’s extra-curricular activities.

I’m dying to do more solo stuff. Having time apart keeps us going. There won’t be any new material from us for a while.”
Tico said: “Bon Jovi is our job. The travelling gets a lot more tiring but it’s great fun.

“We’ve been on the road for seven months now and I’m looking forward to doing normal things like changing light bulbs

“We definitely need the time off to keep the marriage fresh. It’s what we do so we’ll be carrying on for sure.”

He tends to contradict himself a lot doesn't he? Or he just changes his mind. It's frustrating when he's talking about this sort of stuff.

I haven't learned anything though, because I get psyched up everytime he's mentioned it for the whole time I've been a fan
