Default Richie's Hand Solo GONK examined in slo mo link added

OK watching the HD footage of the stage and screen, the mystery of the Richie mistake is pretty simple. It is NOT a broken string as someone postulated in another thread.
He plays the song on the upper neck with a capo and the solo on the lower neck with no capo. He forgot to switch back after the solo and after hitting the right fret on the wrong neck he quickly grabs the other neck to continue.
probably a mental slip
Dave
I may try to post it up to youtube if folks actually care.

I thought I saw that on the footage, but it went too quick and shaky for me to tell. That makes sense though, just the right notes on the wrong neck. We all make mental slip-ups, probably too many to count for me, because we are all human. Now he just can't make a habit of it.

Dave, that's exactly what happened. No broken string would cause a key change. And of course it happened at a moment when the band was otherwise silent, which really make it stand out. I was 11 rows from Richie and could see him fumble and then grab the correct neck. A mental slip, nothing more.

when I heard it live It was so exposed and hanging out there that I wasn't sure what was really happening, I thought that everybody but one guitar was "turned off" at the board and that the guitarist stopped short after hearing himself all alone

the band recovered instantly unlike Jon who couldn't seem to find his place in KTf where he seemed to be constantly out of time

on the recording I definately hear the wierd phasing occasionally, I hadn't considered the wind blowing the sound around until you suggested it last night

I shot the screen with the jovi-ants at the bottom of the picture and it's pretty easy to see, though the screen cuts away at the end of the solo, you can watch ant-richie start on the wrong neck and then hurridly switch

I'll post the clip tommorow after we finish watching the show and I install a new hot water heater for my mother in law

He did the same thing at one of the Mohegan Sun shows. It's the event that caused the "Richie's drinking again" theories.

it's not really a revelationary assumption to make.

I think Richie is a boozebag and he will be till he's old and grey...well older and greyer.

He's an alcoholic. A functioning one...he gets up and does his day job without too many "hic-ups" but he's a drinker all the same.

Doesn't make him a bad person-just someone who for thirty years has had a few beers after leaving the office. Same as Billy Joel.
