I know what you mean and that comparison is one of my pet peeves. BUT....I watched both sets at Rock in Rio and there was no competition in the amount of work that Bruce put in versus what Jon did. There was no comparison of setlists either. Bruce's set blew Jon's away including playing for an additional hour.

Jon has had it really rough lately and I am one of his fans and defenders, but he is really going to have to up his game if he wants to stay in the game. He sure didn't do that at Rock in Rio, an enormous event on a world stage.

To be fair, many of the bands in RIR sounded dreadful. Maybe the location doesn't help the singers.

Helloween was the worst for me.

Just listened to Always on the way home last night and it didn't sound great, but I wouldn't blame Jon for that. Whilst not exactly being good, he's been a lot worse and I was quite surprised how much he was being ripped here for it, I was expecting a bloodbath. It doesn't help the whole thing that both the drums and lead guitar sound totally different, adding to the weak vocals makes it overall quite a strange version. I wouldn't come down to hard on a last minute replacement drummer, but the playing on Always was pretty strange.

But I disagree that they shouldn't play it- no matter how bad Jon's vocals are, I appreciate him giving it a bash for a song that really should be a staple.

I've said the same. Even if he struggles, the fact he attempts it knowing a lot of fans want to hear it means a lot.

Correct. Any Always is greater than no Always.

I'm surprised noone noticed Jon's smirk when he sang "I bet it's warm in California" during WLOL. Couldn't help but connect that to the whole issue with Richie.

oh I did notice that.
Why songs like WLOL and Memory are still in the setlist it's a mystery to me...

Maybe because Lost Highway is the last album that Jon still has some passion for.

Given that the 2010 South American tour featured some of Jon's best vocals in the last decade, I'm not sure how big of a factor location is.
