The "sweaty hands" line sounds like he's had a stroke.

The semi-bluesy arrangement is pretty cool, though, even if it was probably used because the band'd never rehearsed the song.

Well, I don't know if it's bad or good, but in my opinion Rosie sounds just as good / as bad (choose what you'd like) as the stuff he actually did rehearse. No big difference at all - sloppy guitar playing and he doesn't know the chords of the song. Don't get me wrong, it's really nice that he's trying to play Rosie again, but come on, listen to the album version, rehearse it with the band and learn the text, God damn it!

completely agree. This song is a explosion live, a shame to not take it seriously.

He has to realise now that Rosie should be a staple.

The live version of Rosie on the RS On Lead Guitar album (on spotify) is unbeatable.

I'd actually posted this as a comment to the 2014 video but my comment was deleted. So yeah, I agree with you. There really is no difference. I also don't understand how he can start the, what seems to be guitar solo, at the wrong time and it then being completely off. As soon as he improvises, he's losing track of the entire song. It's really baffling me.

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan

This was a related link for the 1992 performance of Rosie. The difference is incredible, especially the interview afterwards. He fronted MOST of the bands he was in before Bon Jovi, and when he talks about music, it doesn't sound like he's overdramatizing every single aspect. He actually sounds believable, not just spouting PR bullshit. The only time you can tell he's just throwing out phrases is when he's asked about Cher, but that's kinda understandable.

Of course, him being around a girl he wants to impress probably makes matters worse, but really, his whole "I'm a soulful guy who just wants to play music"-schtick doesn't work with the ammount of bullshit at all.

Rosie:

I will defend Richie on this one.

He obviously didn't remember the song and did his best with it. I love when they satisfy fan requests.

Jon's done this before with other songs and it's just great to watch them go outside the set-list. I remember the band doing the improv to Kansas City and Jon also doing his own song Miracle. IMO, watching them treat a song like that, as if they were in rehearsal, shows their musicianship.

In this example Richie stumbled over the lyrics a little in the beginning but corrected the audience once they stared with the Aha Yea before the second verse but the best was when Richie said "I got it" and then kicked in the guitar.

This was the best video I watched so far. The Distance on the other hand was a mess. He over sang it and tried to make it his own.

On a side note: I wonder if that fan request has something to do with Rosie not being included on the Deluxe Release. There was much talk from us fans about the song not being included and I wonder if he requested it knowing that. Kind of a way to give one back to Richie.

If you're referring to that version of The Distance (from 2 days ago), god is that awful! He sounds like being totally drunk at the beginning of the song, then forgets to put his guitar in the correct setting, sings wrong notes en masse, etc.
