I am with you I didn't know the label is the one pre paying a tour .... I thought it was promoters for example but not the label

Regardless of its size, record label advances are based on a band's potential future royalties: because the label reimburses itself out of their record sales, the band is free to spend it on whatever they want. Smart bands treat their advances like the line of credit it is, so they will have something to fall back on during lean times.

Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony says he brought his father the first new truck he would ever own. Jon said they spent their advances on "cars that cost more than a hundred bucks." Guns N Roses say they were given $25,000 (in cash at their insistence) which they divided evenly in the lobby of the record company. Helmet was reportedly given a million dollars, which they fought over so viciously they never recovered. And then there's Testament, who invested their advance on a portable sound system and their own audio engineer to ensure their gigs would always sound good!

Bruce Springsteen reportedly got a $13 million advance for "re-enlisting" with Sony Records -- they're that confident they'll get it back. And he doesn't have to spend it on recording or touring: he has his own studio, and the A-list concert promoters are MORE than happy to do business with him!

now it looks all odd because the typhoon is gone and the show is (for now )still canceled for weather reason ...I guess they prefer to keep the bad weather reason better than sort out 2 shows ticket holders put together into ONE PLACE

Sounds far fetched but if it's so - some would call the typhoon karma..... (Which I don't believe in btw).

And why didn't the Chinese government find the offending Bon Jovi video THEMSELVES -- it's been right on the band's official Web site since their LAST tour! An attempt to divert the blame that's as pathetic as it is propagandistic.

The super typhoon is gone and so is the band.

Fans waiting at the airport (band scheduled to leave at 3pm, local time, i.e. >1 hour ago):

Nah, she's not making any sense. The theories on why people should've listened to her are absolutely pointless. You don't cancel a show unless you're absolutely sure you can't perform. There's no point in cancelling both shows if you're only 100% certain you can play one of them, and why someone would think otherwise boggles my mind.

I'm constantly reading theories on how the band is without a record deal, the band is without that, yet the money a record company invests in a deal is won back by the eventual profit. Even if the band had a record company investing in their tour, they'd now have to make that money back themselves. It makes it hard to believe why Jon would hire a company for something he could do himself.

The examples posted by rocknation are either not in relation to this, or are just flatly outdated. The touring industry has changed a lot over the years. Nowadays record companies invest in a part of the tour, handle promotion etc. and then get a share from everything. The tickets, T-shirts, song licensing...

It'd be nice that next time before someone comes up with analogies and presents them as the truth they'd actually back it up by something that make sense, as opposed to self made up theories based upon assumptions on the things they heard in interviews. Do a bit of research instead of spreading this garbage on the board.

And how the **** is Chris Brown's story related to this?

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan

Bon Jovi's official website still has the Island logo at the bottom of it, so it appears they are not without a record label at the moment or for this tour, dear doomsayers. Island has been promoting this record as recently as a few weeks ago with contests and lyric videos.

I imagine that if they are back in that general area, they will try to reschedule the shows the next time they tour--hopefully it won't be during Typhoon Season. Jon said they would get full refunds. Perhaps when they go back to Japan, they can work a side trip into Taipei into the schedule. It wouldn't be too very far out of the way.

Jon is without a record label as far as financing a new album goes, BB was the last one for UMG, the 2016 "real album" won't be under the UMG banner.
Now Jon's contract most likely include some promo & touring to support every album, including BB, even though Jon said the contrary. He first implied they wouldn't be playing any BB song and now they do WDR, he said "no video" and yet they shot a live video for WDR, what's next? Remember that UMG Japan, the first to communicate about the new album, insisted that it was "a fan album to accompany the fall tour" ; if UMG didn't have anything to do with the tour, they wouldn't have mentioned it. UMG and Live Nation "got married" a couple of years ago, the music industry is a small world!
