So they count tickets that aren't actually used towards the attendance and also make up their own definition of what's a sell out at any given venue?

We spoke about this on the circle tour.

Basically if they play a 20,000 seat arena, but only 15,000 tickets go on sale and all tickets are sold, its a sell out, even if you could squeezer another 5,000 in

The 02 as a standing venue is about 23,000 but as a seating venue its about 20, 000

So I could technically book Madison Square Garden, only put ten tickets on sale and say I sold out MSG becuase I sold all the tickets that were made available?

Sure, because someone still paid for the ticket right? By accounting standards, that revenue is still booked as the cash was collected. It's a touring industry standard that ALL promoters whether it be AEG, Live Nation, etc, set their threshold for a sell out. That's why I posted the comparison for Montreal with Maroon 5. Same venue, different attendance and a different sell out number. If I had it my way, I'd report both figures, meaning ticket sales, and true attendance from scanned tickets.

No, because promoters have a range of usually 85% of capacity to not have a extreme result as in your scenario.

thats very interesting,thanks deb

taking this to the extreme then, they could sell 10.000 tickets,if all the ticket holders died and didn't turn up it would still be a sell out ! told you it was extreme !

Ha ha Michael, good one. In some cases, I'm sure the artist would rather be taxed on who attended would lower their bill.

Bon Jovi is one of the few bands that sells seats behind the stage. That adds at least a couple thousand seats that other bands normally close off.

Ticket holder payed for the ticket so that ticket is sold... I dont see why would they count only used tickets...

Exactly. I missed the Nashville show, but they still got my $200 for the ticket even though my butt wasn't in the seat.
