Same for me for the Cleveland and Columbus show. My ticket was sold, I just wasn't there due to strep throat. No way to reconcile cash, if you only count who actually sat in their seat. Plus, the contracts for the venue, promoter and band all have a percentage of sales attached to them.

Isn't that just because all the seats are available in Bon Jovi concert and in Maroon 5 concert the other end where's the stage is not in use...?

Could be, I'm not aware of the Maroon 5 set up but also could be the Live Nation sell out percentage is different than what is used by AEG.

Bon Jovi's number always seem to be total sell outs on those boxscores regardless- surely the industry doesn't treat them as genuine? Just changing the allocation to suit the sell out. Can't see anyone else on that list who has done that, every show a 100% sell out.

Stage and seating configurations have a lot to do with how many seats are acutally available. Aside from that, there's a difference between a sellout and a capacity crowd.

I saw Metallica and Slayer headline shows at the same arena one week apart. While the Metallica show was packed from top to bottom, the Slayer show was packed from the second level down -- the top tier was completely empty. A failure on Slayer's part? Not if the promise to sell the "capacity" number of tickets was fufilled. Of course Metallica's promoter MADE more money -- but since Slayer's promoter SPENT less money, the profit margins were probably quite similar!

The capacity number really is the least meaningful as it can be adjusted based on the promoter. The attendance number is what is important and what drives the gross revenue figure.
