This is good news for me!! I thought you could still smoke at a concert in the UK too. We have had the smoking ban in Ireland for years but you can still smoke at concerts. Its so annoying, at Punchestown there was someone behind me smoking between every act and itwas bloody annoying with smoke blowing into your eyes.

Theres no way the smoke is just going into "the sky above your head" unless of course there is a special wind blowing it upwards

What happened to us all!!!
God I love this quote - that's what I grew up with at rock concerts too

That said - I quit smoking years ago - right about the time I first got pregnant in my 30's and I haven't smoked since. I now absolutely enjoy going to shows and not seeing the show filtered through the cloud of smoke that there used to be. It was even worse at indoor venues like Madison Square Garden. When Zeppelin played there in the seventies all you had to do was breathe the air in order to get high. People would just light a joint and pass it down the row to perfect strangers. While I might miss the high I don't miss the smoke. And having had a kid with asthma problems I know what an inconsiderate smoker can do to others breathing problems.

Even with some of the die hards still lighting up around here - the concerts are far nicer without all the smoke.

You know what I like about this board compared to others I've been on. Although we all have our own opinions no one is aggresive at all.

I have no intention of annoying anyone, and never have. I usually go somewhere discreet and where theres noone around me, back of the Gold Circle usually were the crowd is all spaced out. Plus I have never smoked during a concert itself.

I'm never gonna look a my nan the same again after that conversation. sounds like she was wilder than me. I thought she was all prim and proper!!!

Haha, stick around a bit longer, I'm sure some animosity will find you sooner or later!

As I've already said, St Mary's Stadium had a smoking area inside the stadium for you to smoke in without bothering the non smokers. Maybe you were unaware or unable to find it but hundreds of people did cause they were using it.
Problem solved.

If I deserve any hostility, bring it on!!But seriously having read this Board for Years, it really is a cool board. The main players on this board seem to have their heads screwed on.

I agree that there should be no smoking inside too, and part of me wishes that they would stop selling alcohol etc when the concert has started as it's so annoying when you're enjoying the show and people keep getting up and wanting to get past you to go and get another beer. I can't understand how people can spend so much money on tickets only to keep missing bits of the show (and I mean the main act, not the supporting act) to get drunk. It happened at Southampton and I actually think its pretty rude to keep walking out while the band is playing. And then you see the muppets afterwards who can't stand up. Don't get me wrong, I like a drink as much as the next person, but not at a concert.

After being stuck in seats for Hampden on the HAND Tour next to a loud-mouthed twat with too much alcohol in him, I have completely lost all patience with people who insist on drinking excessively at concerts.
I totally agree. I went to see the Killers last year, these twats were totally drunk in front of us, and then punched my friend cause she accidently kicked over one of their cups of beer which was on the ground on her way to the toilet.
Don't ****ing put it on the ground then w*nkers!

Oh come on, that's ludicrous! Are you telling me the smoke just goes into all that sky above you an evaporates without a trace? By that argument, you can't smell cigarettes outdoors, which is just rubbish. I don't dispute that they'd put their cigarette out if asked but it shouldn't really get to that point. Smoke all you want but don't subject other people to it.
My argument and comment was with reference to outside smoking not exactly being a health threat. No more then traffic in town stopped at a red light is with all the exhaust flumes pumping out. Yes smoke smells, so do lots of other things. What would you do if someone stunk of B.O and was stood right in front of you????

That's just wrong. Passive smoking is a threat whether it's indoors, outdoors or wherever the hell you are. If you're stood in a group of 100 people, they're going to breathe in your smoke, whether you think they are or not.

Most people don't go and stand next to the exhaust of a car for 5 minutes though, do they?

I can't believe you're honestly trying to compare cigarette smoke to body odour. One can potentially kill you after repeated exposure, the other is just a bit unpleasant for a while.

Have a read:

Hardly medical but proves enough of a point.
