I speculated.

Look at his performances from Japan in 2003 and 2008 when he was struggling with illness...he was chewing then and that's the only time I've ever seen him chewing during performances. I automatically put 2+2 together when I saw he was clearly not on-form and chewing gum constantly throughout the show.

If so, you'll know that if you stop after a while your mouth and throat become dry and irritable. Chewing gum helps.
Clearly chewing gum is a sign that somebody's on the booze. Must remember that one, as I get through at least a couple of packets a week. Better get to AA. Give us all a break and get back to the real world.

He was on fire at every gig up until Philadelphia; playing with passion like I haven't seen for years and now he has a couple of off nights and he's a raging drunk and the worst guitar player ever known. Get a sense of perspective.

Well said. You guys are just speculating based on practically no evidence at all. Lets just wait and see in a couple of weeks how he's doing.

Chances are he's just ill at the moment and could well be on some medications which are making him a bit groggy hence the (and I'm taking others word for this) erratic playing.

Can i just state that i was genuinely asking a serious question, i didnt want to start off a big bitching session (which this hasn't become by the way)

But when we know nothing else what can we do but speculate?

You're one hostile son of a bitch.

We're simply speculating, get off your high horse.

Here's a mad idea; don't speculate. Let's just state thing as they are. Nobody knows anything.

Richie's being chewing gum for the last few shows, and apparently he looks a bit worse for wear and and his playing has become a bit sloppy. How is that possibly evidence to conclude that he's become an alcoholic in need of treatment and the tour is possibly going to have to be suspended? It's just not. There is no way you can get from what we know to that conclusion.

Maybe Richie is drunk again, but maybe he's just ill. Maybe he's gotten some other kind of bad news and that's taking it's toll. There's any number of things it could be but in the absence of any evidence whatsoever, all we can legitimately say is we don't know.

I really really hope Richie isn't back on the booze, obviously.

Has someone got a link to show Richie playing sloppy in the past few shows please?
