All shows are sold out. the venues they play in the states are smaller than the ones they play in europe, everyone knows that.

WEll they are not selling the full capacity of the arenas, the chicago and detroit venues can hold 20,000 (with seats behind the stage, like u2). And madison , ohio and the others are not full capacity even without the seats behind the stage. they are selling 12,000-14,500 tickets in venues with capacity for 18,000.

I think that everyone does that... for security reasons, etc....

Capacity depends on stage set up. I was at the Qwest Center for Bon Jovi and three weeks later for Keith Urban. For Bon Jovi, they had set up less than 40 seats across the main floor at the front--had me a bit concerned becuase my KU tix were seats 39 & 40 and I thought, "Where the heck are my seats for the next show?" Then for the KU show, seats 39 & 40 weren't even the isle seats. They had set up 45 or so across the floor. Bon Jovi's screen is so huge that anyone behind the stage would have completely obstructed view. They can't sell full capacity. Tickets behind the stage would be worthless even if they were free. There were full side sections that Bon Jovi sold but were blocked for Keith's show because his side stage setups would have obstructed the view there, but Bon Jovi's flatter catwalks did not. So far in Qwest Center history, Bon Jovi has sold the most tickets for any concert and Paul McCartney was there a few weeks before and U2 will be there soon, maybe this weekend. It's not a matter of how many people will a venue accommodate, but how many people will the set up allow it to accommodate.
