Southampton (a rant)
First of all I am no Bon Jovi fan boy. But I have seen them before and watched/listened to quite a few bootlegs etc. I wouldn't pay that much for a ticket to go and see a band I didn't know quite a bit about...
I paid for a Gold Circle ticket...but how friggin big was the gold circle? I woudl estimate almost half the standing pitch. I know there are no hard and fast rules as to how big the GC should be but IMO it should be a lot smaller than it was today - especially if you are paying 50% extra for the privellige. We all know how corporate BJ are but this is taking the piss.
Talking of money - the setlist - the length of the show for that much money in unforgivable. End of, I don't care how you want to justify it (I imagine no one got into the show for less than £50)
The show itself got off on a slow start (for me anyway, given how many gigs I have been to but for many it might have been great). It started getting good with IN THESE ARMS but then got boring with Captain Crash (seriously with such a huge catalogue (full of some excellent songs) why are they singing songs like this?) - personally I was hoping for a few more hard hitters. I felt they did a few decent songs and followed up with long boring drawn out ones (Sleep When I'm Dead and Any Other Day).
Anyway I thought they were pretty average and sandwiched between two Springsteen shows this one will be quickly forgotten which is a shame as I was hoping for great thigns from one of the worlds best live acts but going by this they are not putting on the best shows they could IMO. I had inklings of seeing them in twickenham but this experience has knocked that on the head, and I will be annoyed if they do a longer setlist!
Oh well, spose we got ALWAYS which I wanted quite badly (but no These Days)
The funny and sad thing is we have a local music venue which hosts a Bo nJovi tribute band (won't name them) but they are so good that the first tiem I saw them they were so much like BJ, did all the best songs that their show was much more enjoyable than tonights (though that was in a small venue so the music was way more intense)
