Default Southampton Review from Classic Rock Magazine

Not particularly great....

"Say what you like about Bon Jovi but they are probably the only major American rock band who are guaranteed to include a decent trek around Britiain as part of any of their full scale tours.

Which is one of the reasons why around 30,000 fans are crammed into Southampton's football stadium, bathed in sunshine, to soak up the songs and hang on Jon's every word, the audience comprised of the usual mix of drunken teens in Trivium t-shirts, mums and dads, dewy-eyed couples, and shameless scrags who even 25 years ago resembled Alice Cooper dipped in acid, all hoping to get a glance their way from Jon.

Bon Jovi amble on stage to an almost messianic welcome. The perma-tanned, pearl toothed vocalist sprints to the lip of a huge ego-ramp jutting out into the middle of the audience, and with those few athletic steps takes all the attention away from the main stage at a stroke.

Surprisingly the sound is appalling, with little if any guitar in the mix, and the opening anti-climax is made all the more apparent by, oddly, playing the Fogerty/Quo chestnut Rocking all Over the World as the second song in the set.

A particularly grizzled Richie Sambora looks like he'd have more fun at a shit chomping contest. And although the music and specacle are certainly above contempt, this was a disjointed show. Apparently they blew the roof off Milton Keynes the following night. Cheers, guys."

I did seem to notice this, especially in Coventry & Southampton, and hearing some of the boots about there seems to be very little or very quiet guitar and for some reason they never seem to fix it.

Southampton was a great concert though, surprised they didnt send a reviewer to MK instead, but good for a bit of variety.
