I've been in seats for a huge amount of different shows over the years and only once or twice have I been asked to sit down!! One time was at a Tom Jones show and my 80 year old mother was with me and she stood up too.
I don't get it either. If you go to a rock concert - how can you sit down!! - I know I can't. So good for you Kathleen for not backing down on that one.

I always stand at shows, in fact if a band gets me to sit its a sign that I dont want to be there. The only time I've ever been asked to sit was last month at the Bruce concert.
Luckily there, I had an end of row seat, so I just stood in the aisle. But honestly, unless you're truly disturbing someone, they have no right to tell youwhether to sit or not IMHO. Like at the show on the 28, I stood for everything, including TD and RSOW even though everyone else in my section sat.

Not a problem - I really wanted to know if I was being a total shithead. I guess from these responses I am.

It's just that I have seen all my Bon Jovi shows here in the northeast and even in the seated arenas (and stadiums) I have never seen anyone sitting except maybe in the top tiers.

Not to mention that I have seen many other rock shows besides Bon Jovi and not seen people sitting. Yes Bruce will ask for quiet during a particular song but most of the time he asks you to get off your collective asses. Only during his solo tours does he tell you to shut the **** up - and those are not rock shows.

Just curious, but why did you not consider standing up yourself to be an acceptable option?

Nope.
Come to think of it, I've only sat once at a Bon Jovi concert, which was during the December '05 shows TLFR songs. And I'm usually in the cheapies.

You stand at concerts. End of story.
If you want to sit down, go to a nursing home.

Good for you Kathleen, for standing up...

I did the same thing at the Roger Waters concert in Toronto...
People went as far as throwing coins at my back. No joke. They were whipping coins at me. I made a lot of money that night.

Although have been to gigs where no one has stood until near the end !! The last one was Rush but I guess that says more about the general age of those around us.

EVERY time I have seen the boys everyone has been standing , where ever we have been in the stadium.

Chatting to mates here seems that it is up to the venue and artist if for people to sit.... He was saying that the O2 was sitting only .... But not that I noticed when it opened !!!
i was in seats at the ricoh last year......everyone was standing/dancing/having a good time

Something for those on the UK side of the pond to realize is that all tickets are seated for 99% of the US shows. Even most stadium shows are set up with a seat for every ticket. General admission is very rare in the US.
I've seen pretty close to 250 shows here and exactly 4 have been general admission.
Bon Jovi 1987 legend valley a big field with a stage
Bon Jovi 1989 legend valley
Type O Negative 2004 small club
Bon Jovi Hand tour Heinz Field

a decent handful of acts have played to seated houses:
Sting 1987, a bunch of jazz shows and symphony performances, Pink as the opener for Lenny Kravitz (i was politely asked to sit by one of the dozen other people there, but instead moved sideways a few seats so they weren't behind me anymore), Bon Jovi Borgata TLFR show, Jethro Tull @2000 on the lawn but most people were too high to stand anyway , pink flloyd @1988 ohio stadium, again chemically induced placidity was the norm.

Maybe I am a thoughtless twit but unless the vast majority of the folks around me are sitting, I will stand and enjoy the show. Probably a case by case basis.

During the Crush Tour in Hersey Pennsylvania they asked us to be seated and no one listened. Sitting at a Bon Jovi concert is unheard of. Never sat down at one of their concerts EVER!! lol

No, I don't think you are. You are not at the symphony, you are at a rock show. I have been asked to sit at concerts where i have had seats not on the floor and I very sweetly said "I paid such and such dollars for my ticket and i would like to stand and dance and have a good time" I really don't think anyone should have the right to ask you to sit, unless *and this is even a maybe* unless they have a little kid behind you and they can absoulutely not see.

The all request hour, the girl in the front row has just asked for Blood on Blood, ok, Merry Christmas young lady!" Amazing <3
