Bummer- as great as JBJ is and can play with anyone, the band could have and should have been there. The event was for the Bon Jovi fan club and that meant The Band Bon Jovi.

I think its great to shake up the setlist, but the band could have done it as well if not better.

I'd take the show we got . . . no doubt about it.

I bet if the whole band had been there, we'd have gotten the usual songs with a few (or maybe even a handful) of gems thrown in. I really doubt that we'd have gotten the incredible trip down memory lane that was probably inspired by the Roots of Rock promotion. I thought it was a beautifully and very thoughtfully crafted setlist, and I have no complaints about the band. They were terrific. Kenny Aronoff and Everett Bradley were great fun to watch. Too bad they don't enjoy what they do! LOL And you just can't go wrong with a bunch of Jukes for the rest of the band. JBJ talks about Jovi being a "bar band" all the time. This time he was playing with a genuine bar band extraordinaire! Of course, the irony of this whole scenario is that I'm sure the "memory lane" show was much better received by the fan club than by the MC crowd! Whatever -- it worked for me.

There is one little change that I'd have made in the show, and it will sound like sacrilege. As far as I'm concerned Wanted needs Richie. There's just no way around it. So without Richie, I'd opt for no Wanted. I'm sure that's just me, though.
finally! - i though it was an interesting question too

i may have to rethink what i jsut posted in the other thread bc i can not believe that jbj would have the whole band sing just his songs but maybe he did for roots of rock but i still say no way bc it should be BONJOVI roots not JBJ roots...but you know how that goes sometimes...if the whole band played the same set i do think it would sound MCUH MUCH better...SSJ guys are good but the harmonies were awful - i was shocked at how good BB's voice was when he soloed and how horrible they sounded sha la laing...

I agree with everything here and its a major reason i dont really collect anything from the fanclub because its all JBJ stuff......

i have never agreed with that change and dont like it - if he wants to have a solo one fine but it shouldnt be the official group fanclub...

It only got to me a few times (most notably on Wanted which is why I said it really needed Richie or shouldn't be done). Bobby's been harmonizing with Southside for lo these many years while Jon & Richie have been doing the same. I'm not surprised that couldn't be sorted out in short order. Nevertheless, I'd still answer your question the same way, Marc. Hearing those songs that I just don't think the band would do was too much of a surprise and a treat to give back.

Now we just need to talk the band into doing the same kind of show with the band's rarities. Sign me up for that one, too!

I'd take a BAND STANDARD GREATEST HITS SHOW over a JON BON JOVI RARITIES SHOW.

Sure, Jon playing all those rare songs is amazing but I only like 2 Power Station songs and they wern't the ones he played - and I don't like much of Jon's solo stuff at all.

The official fanclub is "Backstage with Jon Bon Jovi" - it's the only one there is. Becky gave an explanation a while ago saying that it used to be a full band fanclub but then the other mothers didn't want to deal with it anymore and it bacame backstage with JBJ. So technically Jon was just fine with JBJ and Friends.

In general, I'll ALWAYS take a band show. However, if you told me I have one time choice between a Jovi hits show and this one, I'll take this one once.

I'm in the same boat--somewhat. I'd rather it been a band gig and hopefully the four of them would have had the balls to re-learn some stuff we consider rarities instead of taking the easy way out.

I don't like much of Jon's solo stuff at all. So while I appreciate the effort he put into making the night special for those who attended, I wouldn't have gotten the same enjoyment out of it as those who went or those who enjoy his solo shit.

As for the band not being there, I have no problem with it. It was a "JBJ and friends" show. If it was advertised otherwise, I would have had a problem with it. I think the far more intersting question is why wasn't it a band fanclub show? Did Richie, Tico or David think the ticket price was outrageous and not worth supporting? Did Jon want to perform this show solo?

Somehow I sincerely doubt that. For starters, unless I'm mistaken, aren't most fan club events dealing with Jon? Secondly, while I know it seems to be popular opinion that Jon is king of the dicks, and poor Richie, Tico, and Dave are the peons who suffer his tyranny, but I just don't buy that. And if fair is fair, I didn't hear anyone in the band complaining about those insane $1000 rip-off jobs they were selling last tour.

Brian,
No need to be a prick here and try to put words in my mouth or skew them. I was not putting down Jon in any way. I was not starting a pity party for Richie, Tico or David. No where did I say Jon was a tyrannt.

All things happen for reason--not out of the clear blue. There was a reason it was a Jon and friends show. What it was, I don't know. I was throwing potential possibilities out there. But one if one of them did have a problem with the charge? Do you really think that would come out in public? The answer is no.

I agree that most fan club stuff does deal with Jon and the club bears his name. Ironically, fans still expect Richie, Tico and David to be involved which is why this thread was started in the first place.
