Am I the only one to think that Richie, and in a slightly broader sense, his entourage of Bon Jovi-bandmates are finally over the hill? Time to retire with grace and dignity? It's definitely starting to sound rather dire as of lately. The whole "it" isn't there anymore, and for every passing year it just keeps on getting worse.

You unbelievable wanker,

First of all, there was already a thread on amsterdam
Two, i stopped reading after where you commented taking a chance on the wind.

I am a musician myself, i know my world , i see many concerts in all kinds of styles and i have been to more than enough bon jovi shows over the last 20 years to know what i am talking about.

I know writng your stuff and getting reactions gives you the biggest hard on ever but your review is simply the biggest pile of bullshit ever.

One advice for you... stop following Richie or Bon Jovi in 2013 cause you will only be disappointed again. Vanilla setlists, auto pilot, bad singing, sloppy playing, etc... Better save the money for a band you might like.

It's got to be tough to get disappointed over and over again so save yourself that harsh feeling and start following bieber. He always delivers.

*yawn*

The gig was epic, and as for people who weren't there - don't believe 95% of this attempt at a review, I have no idea what planet Supersonic lives on. But I did LOL at ''...his guitar work was great, but it wasn't. He played like me on a bad day at most times''. I am not even going to bother getting into that, its so juvenile and nonsensical.

Although yes, Sugar Daddy made me cringe with embarrassment and the Oasis cover was surreal and totally out of place, and there were some fluffing of lyrics with the whole ipad fiasco, but hey its live music and the first show of a tour - why focus on the little things when the gig as a whole was totally fantastic and the band sounded great, and Richie's voice and playing was phenomenal.

overall a good review, i m sure the band will sound tighter with more shows...they look too session musicians up there though...like they arent having any fun and want to finish with the show with no mistakes-no excitement...richie made some mistakes and obviously isnt as comfortable as he should be after all these years performing...
i m also reading that not every show is sold out by now, it must be weird for richie not being able to fill the nokia theatre once when bj would fill the new meadowlands stadium and the garden several times on the same tour...richie sadly comes out as washed up sometimes like seb said, he looks healthy and happy but he has lost his creativity...
the review was good as a said in the beginning BUT...1.it would be more humble to be posted in the existing thread,2.the slash comment was off, slash is sloppy, he is a great rock guitarist but he isnot that superior from richie, at least imo and 3. the comment that richie's playing was like yours in a bad day is a joke....even if you have managed to be a technically accomplished guitarist you are just a guy who plays in his bedroom...i guess you know the joke..."how many guitarists you need to change a lamp???...20...how come???one to change it and 19 others to watch and explain why they would do it better...."

I'm in agreement..... Wife and I were talking about it last night following this review and what clips we saw on Youtube.
Richie is looking AND sounding old. In fact, when my wife saw the "Don't Look Back in Anger" clip she dared to say that Richie's either back on the bottle or doing something else!
I'm glad I haven't forked out £30+ for a 14 song gig and I can safely say that, based on recent releases and the Circle tour, we won't be looking at purchasing tickets for next year either.
They have lost their spark completely.... and anyone who says to look at Hyde Park to see they still have it - that was one gig that they specifically tuned themselves up for because it was broadcast live. I even admitted last night that I only went to the O2 gigs cos she wanted to go. There was a gig at Wembley Stadium that I turned down tickets to because of the O2.

Well, it's your loss. You are basing those decisions on a few dodgy select youtube videos... and a horrendous Oasis cover, but I can assure you that Richie was on top form overall. I have been to almost half the Bon Jovi shows listed on your Signature, and I rank this up there if not better than those shows. I have also seen Bon Jovi live more, and rank this Richie gig very high up the list.

I was at the show too Andy, night 1 was very poor. Both performing wise as well as setlist wise. Do not pretend to be mister know-it-all.

It's fun to see several fanboys being out in full force and thus my review must be wrong and I must be a wanker, go to Bieber shows etc. Really good arguments there.

I've no idea where you stood, but when you're in the front I'm sure you must've thought everything was considered a highlight by everyone but the show did not go over well with the back of the crowd, just like the balcony at a certain point was looking rather bored. Saying how Richie sounded great is something I don't really understand when he struggled to get the notes out and was often flat or slightly out of key.

And in regards to my guitar work; like I say, I'm not a brilliant guitarist but I know my way around the neck of a guitar and am getting better every year where Richie just isn't that good anymore on a regular basis. He wasn't a patch on what he's usually capable of, no idea how someone who supposedly plays guitar missed out on this, it was quite obvious. The fact that I play in my living room and he plays in a venue doesn't change much about this, it'd mean that when Richie plays bigger venues he's on the peak of his form which isn't the case at all. A rather silly argument there.

But if we're going to talk about how many Bon Jovi shows we've all seen, because this clearly matters in discussions like these, I think I've seen at least twice as many shows as you two combined have, so do have quite some shows to compare this one to. The first show Amsterdam had an absolutely brilliant crowd, great atmosphere but the show itself was boring as ****.

If you're standing there with your Richie colored glasses on and have your instant hard on the moment he walks on stage he can do no wrong so I'm sure your night was absolutely fantastic. The people around me seemed to think differently. It also got very busy at the bar halfway through the show and let me also point out that apart from seeing twice as many shows as you have I'm probably twice as tall so really nothing goes over my head. Considering how Thierry was on the balcony and he said exactly the same after the show was done while I was on the floor it's safe to say my perception of the show is a bit closer to what happened out there than yours.

And yes, Richie is getting old. But it seems some people just can't accept this and hold on to the image in their heads they have of the guy who played great solo gigs in 1998. Because that's like yesterday, just like Bon Jovi is similar to the band of the 1996 tour. If your perception of things is an already made up, skewed image of what happens around you, you're missing out on an awful lot out there. Calling me a wanker or whatever else you can come up with isn't going to change that.

On a positive note; the second show...More on that later.

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan

no intention to pick a fight, richie's first show, judging by the you tube clips was a bit dissapointing, when you say that richies playing through the show was you having a bad day guitarwise then you are being provocative and we have every right to disagree and joke about this, if you insist on this you can just post a video of you playing and let the others judge, as simple as that...richie makes mistakes and has been lazy the last decade but you are being just another "nerd/guitarist/cliche"when minor performance mistakes make you not appreciate the whole song

I haven't resorted to name calling, so I assume that's not directed at me. And a lot of what you said is your own opinions, which I am sure most of the crowd do not share, as that was pretty evident on the night. What is your point with regards the number of shows you have seen? ( you don't know how many I have seen anyway). I was saying that from all the shows I have seen that this ranks highly, so that counts for something. This can not be 'wrong' as it is my opinion, from seeing many shows by a lot of artists, so calm yourself.
And what on earth are you talking about being twice as tall? No you're not. And so yes, your sidekick agreed with you on some points, thus making your opinions fact? Nope, still only opinions that most other people will not agree with. As I have mentioned several times, there were mistakes, some vocal issues, sound issues, song choices etc etc, so I am more than capable of being objective here, but I am a realist and do not expect a perfect show from anyone.

Whereas most people like to focus on all the good things, not only in something trivial like a gig but elsewhere in life, I suspect you like to pick up on the negative and choose to focus on these rather than the bigger picture, which again is your loss.
