It actually doesn't - don't worry, efpg0708 is overanalyzing things...
It's obviously not up to Jon's '08-'11 standards, but it's far better than any 2013 version I remember hearing of the song (maybe save for Milan). He's hitting the notes and actually singing instead of shouting or whispering.
