Given the gradual decline in Jon's vocals over the years leading up to 2013, I'm sure you're right about the effect that a lifetime of bad technique, overuse, and abuse had on his voice. At the same time, however, it's hard to deny that the decline after 2013 wasn't even in the same zip code as "gradual". Both Jon's vocals and his stage presence basically dropped off a cliff. So I'm equally sure that there's another big part of the problem that probably is psychological.

Granted, you could debate whether that psychological component truly is about Richie leaving; or if that was a convenient excuse that happened to fit in with the overall theme of the THINFS interviews. But the timing is just too coincidental for me to believe it's not somehow related. JMO.
Yes, I’m aware that psychological issues can lead to physical issues, and I’m pretty sure that Richie’s departure accelerated the downhill process that Jon has been suffering since 2013.

What I’m trying to say is that, if Jon gets his shit together today, his voice won’t improve, because he has a physical issue now. All those years of abuse were sure going to catch up with him one day, and psychological issues surely contributed to make that day arrive sooner. However, I’m pretty sure that TODAY, the issue is 100% physical, as he seems to be over the Richie situation.

All in all, this tour is a major **** you to the die hard fans who pay a shitload of money for a shitfest. I was lucky to see 2 decent shows. But that’s it.
I don't think it is really about the money. I think he put a lot of effort into saying the band has reached a new chapter and is evolving that it is too hard for him to deal with his voice problem. He needs the constant approval for what he does and there are still A LOT of people on facebook commenting about how the shows are the best thing they ever went to. He has never really done anything else in his life, there are people in his band (Shanks) who are kissing his ass and I doubt that David will come up to him and say: Jon, stop singing, you sound horrible.

It is strange that up to Wembley some shows were quite decent and after their break it all went downhill like that.

And I think the setlist is so boring, because Jon is too insecure with his current abilities that he won't try rare songs. I still don't get why he doesn't put a few acoustic songs in the set. The intro to WSYCGO sounded decent in Munich.

Judging by the way they’ve been “hiding” his voice in the mix, an acoustic set would expose his voice more.

Fair enough. It was just my interpretation then. I read it as you saying there wasn't a psychological component, at all; and that some ppl just had it in their heads that there was.

As for Jon being over it, I'll reserve judgment about that until I hear what he says in the "PTSD song" he apparently said was going to be one of the songs on the new album.

Also let’s not forget he is still a smoker, while his voice is already in this shape.

Yes, the way I wrote it made it look as if I didn’t think that was a psychological issue as well. I think there was in 2013, and it contributed to worsening the physical condition of his chords, which seems to be the issue today.

About the PTSD song, haven’t heard about it. Did he talk about it recently ?

Yovana posted something about it on her IG account when she was at one of the European shows. IIRC, she just posted, among some other bits and pieces, that one of the songs on the new album will be a PTSD song. I don't know where she heard it because she didn't say; but her information usually turns out to be pretty reliable. Maybe she can tell us more...

Oh, Yovana!....!!!!

Could you source this please? Seems weird and out of character to me.

Wembley wasn't decent. Wembley wasn't as worse as you expected. Vocally it was still a trainwreck, as was the rest of the tour with the supposedly "Great shows". It's just that you're used to the way Jon sings nowadays but there's no way greatness comes anywhere near it.

They're all on that stage because of ego and money. There's no way any of them still feel rewarded playing the same songs over and over again with no real change. The reason the band was excited in the period 2008-2011 was because of the change in the set and the way the band worked in the studio. That's all gone as Jon's sole reason is to be as comfortable possible while doing the most uncomfortable thing in his life right now; singing.

If it was up to the band they'd be doing different songs. Recording different records. It's not going to change though and it's been this way for quite some time so for now all they've got to do is go through the motions, look excited, and then move on after 3 weeks of touring. It's easy money. There'll be enough in the bank to justify the extreme expenses millionaires do and at the same time there'll be more than enough time not to worry about anything band-related. No one's on that stage for the music anymore and it shows with every single performance. If they'd care for the music they'd have stopped 10 years ago.

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan

Really, where have you been all these years? That interview was all over the place here in 2016.
