I think JBJ and the band has to bring the energy, and then the audience will respond and so on...

At one of the O2 shows I went to Jon was clearly not on form and pretty much rushed the set. Towards the end he said something like "Sorry, I haven't talked much tonight, I'm still hungover from Paris last night"

The crowd groaned and he finished the set. A totally uninspired performance where he took the fans hard earned money and didn't put his heart into it because he was hungover.

So that quote is absolute bullshit but we've come to expect that haven't we.

It doesn't quite work like that. Some crowds are just dead no matter what happens.

I've seen Springsteen live many times and he always brings the same energy every night but crowds differ from city to city. One can be wild and the next a bit dull.

That can't be right! Jon may drink 2 bottles of wine a night, but he clearly doesn't have a drinking problem. He's the consummate professional; so there's no way he'd ever let something like a hangover affect his performance.

Nah, you must have heard him wrong... or he was kidding around, and you just took it the wrong way...

(...or maybe some other fans just have selective memory.)

There were definitely some 'heat of the moment' things I said in the last post.

However, I agree that you should expect nothing but a great for the money you pay for the ticket, travel, day off, etc..

BUT, here's a thing that you need to know, and I'm saying this from a perspective of a frontman of the band (I have a bar band and we play covers).

What you pay in for the ticket is already there. Many many hours invested in songwritting, promotion, production (I mean the stage and lightshow just blows you away), and then they are on stage around 2 and a half hours, while much younger performers like Rihanna or Sheeran are on the stage for an hour and a half barely.

So you are basically already set to have a great time.

But if you come in and start looking at Jon in the first song and go like - 'he sounds like trash' or 'he doesn't move around' then you doomed yourself to have a bad time no matter how the show goes. And that was my point.

The show is already a spectacle, but as a performer I can tell you how important the crowd from energy is to bring out that 10% more out of the frontman that can have a huge impact all around. Doesn't matter if it's 300 people or 50k.

And for casual fans, they won't notice a difference, but us die hards definitely will.

At least from front row, I didn’t smell nothing! Hihih.

I dont know if the prices are justifed by the lightshow, stage and promotion, But apart from Klagenfurt and or maybe the Always performance at Wembley and maybe a few more, Jon did not go the extra mile at all (If he celebrates himself for being a legend)the core is missing.
Yes, Jon might have been a good front man and most people would say so but for me and many other older fans it was never about the posing on stage or the performance as a frontman (not as a first priority anyway) but about what bonjovi90 put it in his review.
Jon had something about him that made him special. He and Richie could create magic if they were up for it. Some songs would just blow you away (I just watched Barcelona 2011 to reboot my memory) and these moments made Bon Jovi a unique live act. These Days, Jon is not hungry anymore. He seemed getting a bit of it back at wembley and maybe at your show but in the end I have to admit to myself that it wont ge any better anymore. I mean look at the setlists. Even in 2013 they were throwing in some rarities.

But if you put away the fancy stuff it just does not have any substance anymore

In normal circumstances, yes, a band should be able to win over an audience. Unless special circumstances like bad sound ( technical stuff) or when the crowd is full of guests and VIPS who are basically there for the food and the wine.

Surely I understand a band will get energy from their fans but it is up to the band to get their audience on fire
