Haha, I really lit the touchpaper here, huh? To be fair I did say "crucify me if you will" but whoever accused me of being dazzled by Phil's toothy grin just fyi I did two years full time contemporary music performance, then, with full distinctions, converted to do my BA in music business. Id est I'm talking about his technique not his ass and I know what I'm talking about - that doesn't mean I'm right, music is inherently subjective, it's just my opinion, but my opinion is educated and based on his playing and my enjoyment of such. In other words: kiss my hairy ass.

Songs like KTF are all about R&R and having fun - it shows when Phil's having fun and it translates to the crowd. I loved singing along to Saturday Night but the guys around me were way more entertained by We Don't Run... it's been said before: we are not the average Jovi fans and to a lot of people replicating the record note for note is less important than replicating the feel of it. Phil doesn't always manage that, but I think he does with KTF. It feels fun.

Hmm, I think in Bremen 1995 he played it almost like on the record, but I'd have to go back and listen to it. What is true though, is that it gradually turned into something easier to play over the years, as Richie got sloppier (and older perhaps?). But I think it would be playable, at least by some guy like Phil X.

I love that people here think Richie is Hendrix, Dimebag or even Joe Satriani... he's a really good guitarist who wrote some beautiful stuff but he's never been technically outstanding. Any decent guitarist can play what Richie plays... even some guy like Phil X (I mean, he's only a handpicked first choice for Tommy Lee, Alice Cooper, Chris Cornell... he's a nothing musician really...)

Who said Richie was technically amazing? Could you find a quote for this thing you love so much?

The only thing anyone has said is that Richie plays the solos in KTF far better than Phil and you're crying about it like a little girl.

It's like a river of salty slush in here - I tried wiping it off on my little girl panties but there's just so much...

I honestly don't know what your problem here is, but I'll quote David Bryan for you:
"You know, technical is technial. It's not a matter of who can play the fast notes, I think it's who can emote the right feeling."

No one ever said anything else.

dya know Phil's said exactly that himself - and in my show review I said that Phil struggled on some especially These Days and Saturday Night for that reason. But my response, that you quoted, was to someone who was talking about the replication of the KTF album solo with the comment "I think it would be playable, at least by some guy like Phil X."

I was simply agreeing with this, thinking he might intentionally play it differently, but with the viewpoint that said person may not have been entirely honest of their intentions. Because sometimes people are disingenuous. Sometimes...

Great. I've listened to roughly 500 Bon Jovi shows and can just say you're full of shit. Because I know what I'm talking about.

Phil X can't play what Richie plays. He's never done any of the same kind of bluesy playing Richie does. Not in Bon Jovi and not in any of the cringy Fretted Americana youTube video's. Not because he sucks as a player, because he's a good player. But because he just doesn't have the technique ánd feel for it and his style doesn't blend with the Bon Jovi sound, whatever that may be nowadays. His guitar solo's don't have a start, middle and end. They're just there, really. You clearly like his way of playing, but to go out saying he does it intentionally is a bit much when he's never, ever tried to emulate any of the guitar solo's to begin with.

Yes, I did. Because it is. No one's been able to replicate it because it's pretty much impossible. Even the guys on YouTube "who play it note for note" do it wrong because it's just not possible to do it in one take. The timing changes so much as does the position on the fret board that it can't be done.
