It just dragged and fell flat for me, although Jon was moving and the crowd was particularly enthusiastic during the song.

Also, I witnessed a similar thing to what epfg did in Rio ’17: Jon pushed himself so hard during the main set, both vocally and physically, that he was barely able to finish the show. When he started singing the first verse of Wanted, I immediately thought ”uh oh...” and by the end of the song, his voice was absolutely shot to the shit house. Prayer was good only because of the crowd (which actually was quite lame for most of the night) - Jon was lucky to have 50,000 backing singers to help him get through the song.

Great night, and definitely way above my (almost non-existent) expectations. I still stand behind my previous words about Jon’s poor vocal shape overall - as it was very obviously displayed in the encore -, but his frontmanship is still unrivaled, and the overall great energy and atmosphere of the show (despite the shitty crowd) made the trip well worth it. Jonny’s church of rock ’n’ roll won me over, once again.

PS. I was nearly crying at the end of These Days, when Jon made us sing the woo-ooh’s. The way he stood there, pointing the mic on us over and over again, his facial expression telling of him being completely possessed by the moment... that was our Jon, the one we all know and love. That moment in that song made me think about the time I was a 4-year-old kid hearing TD for the first time. Prior to last night, I never thought I’d ever be able to hear it live - and then I did.

These kinds of special moments are the reason why, despite all the vocal issues, crappy set lists, lousy new albums etc., I still love this band, and always will.

Thank you, Jon.
Glad you enjoyed it, also glad that you were able to get the song you wanted live. Sounds like you had a really good time. I hope I have a good time too when I see them in Bucharest.

It’s heart breaking to see how much he has to concentrate and push himself in order to “sing” These Days ...

He sadly does this for pretty much every song he has to sing nowadays.

I got to the “man out on the corner” and turned it off. Painful. 2003 was glorious compared to this

What bothers me the most is how forced the verses sound. They are much worst than the chorus, because the region between E and G is where he struggles the most with. There’s no flow in the delivery of the words, as if he has to sing word by word separately in order to remain in tune.

Take a look at the verses here -
I guess we should all be thankful that we got to see them during Jon’s comeback years (07-11). Even though people are still having fun seeing them nowadays, it’s just not my cup of tea anymore.

Cheers

Eduardo

I appreciate that you're not criticising those of us that still enjoy the shows here, some are so annoying when they assume that because they don't like it nobody should

If you thought TD was painful, you should see LOAP:

https://youtu.be/t-K8WugMFgM

That was painful in the literal sense - even though the sound was pretty muddy on my place in the audience and therefor hid some of the more subtle flaws earlier in the show (e.g. a few cracks I only noticed today while watching the videos), Prayer I just couldn't take anymore. Thank goodness there were as many people as there were to pull him through; without them, Jon would probably have ended up with hemorrhaged vocal cords. Fortunately, the crowd was there and Jon got off the stage alive.

That said, my ears were bleeding nonetheless.

Jon's vocals are totally spent during LOAP. It's like there's nothing left in the tank.

True. Blood On Blood killed his voice completely last night and from then on, every song was a butcherfest (especially BM and Prayer). At the end of Wanted, he was so winded that I thought he might have to ask David to sing LOAP guess his version would've sounded better, though...

To each their own !!

I’ve been criticizing the band for some time now because I truly believe that almost everything that made Bon Jovi one of the best live acts of all time has gone by now. I know that RIR2017 was one of the best experiences of my life, but as I wrote in my review, it was mainly because of the insane crowd. But yes, you can still have fun at a BJ concert today, and I feel happy for people who go and enjoy it.

Cheers

Eduardo
