I kinda feel the same way. People have already paid for the show and most of them over 100 dollars. They should get everything the band has to offer. But I understand the crowd situation cause I have been playing and touring with my band for over a year now... The reaction of the crowd is very important and it will easily get you down if they don't give a shit about the song that means a lot to you. When the crowd is singing along, jumping and enjoying the band just want to go on and keep up the atmosphere by playing unexpected songs and longer set. And that was the deal for example in Sao Paulo. And everyone knows how Jon can be like. He has said that Lost Highway and Who Says are very important and one of the best songs he has ever written so when crowd doesn't seem to be thrilled about those songs being played it can change Jons feelings towards the whole show. He is still a human and things like that effects the same way on us than those big rockstars.
Of course there are more factors like Jons mood overall, the weather, some of the band member being sick, being tired of yesterdays gig or the long tour. But as we've seen even on this tour, if they play two or more shows in one town, the last show seems to please the most. Like for example in New Meadowlands. Maybe it's because it is easy to think that in the first show there will be people who aren't that big fans and they just want to see the show and maybe hear Prayer and Always. And I understand the situation in countries they don't visit that often. But when you visit the state of city you'll do on every tour it's not needed to play the "greatest hits" set every time on the first night. And it's the same situation with places they visit on every tour but only has one show. So for example here in Finland they've been here now two times in 21st century and have played very safe and expected sets both times. So I'm already waiting if they are coming here next summer to hear some rarities cause Finland is so small country, only five million people here so everyone who has just wanted to see a big rock show has had his/her opportunity already.... so c'moon shake up the set list God damn Jon! The people who just want to hear Prayer aren't worth to treat that well. The people you should treat well with nice set lists are us, the biggest fans
Little off the topic but still
