Although it might be one of a handful of times, I agree with SAmbo-Chris.
This is promotion for the upcoming album - getting the buzz going.
And she's probably right. Kiel - if it got a great response, why not do it again? Someone else was right - a lot of the cities they're playing, they've been to already so they're changing it up a bit.
Ironic that some who complain the band it too predictable complain louder when they do something totally different than expected.
Oh, so you're complaining that they just were too predictable and when they did do something you didnt' see coming it's just now what you wanted.
Oh, now I get it.

I think it has sod all to do with promotion. How can they promote something that's not happening for another 3 months?
I thought they were doing it, so they can actually use some of the stuff to put on the acousitc album. They tape everything anyway, so once these acoustic gigs are done i think they will go through the tapes to find the best versions of songs to go on the album.

For we all know the album might comprise of studio recordings.

But I think it is promotion. Say they've played acoustically to 100,000 people by the end of the tour, those people will remember and think when the album comes out "oh, they were good acoustic, I'm going to buy this".

It's a different form of promotion that doesn't have to be done once the album is out.

Laziness on Jon's part? Have you ever seen the man perform? He doesn't stop for 2 and 1/2 hours!

I can't believe that anyone would speculate such a ludicrous notion. It's to promote the upcoming live album. How obvious does it need to be? They're doing this now so that audiences will have experienced it and think, "I really need to buy that CD" and so that a buzz will be created about the acoustic CD coming out in the fall.

Use some logic. It's not THAT difficult.

Well I kinda disagree with lazyness, I think firstly it is for promotional reasons, and secondly Jon does love re engineering songs acoustically, example Livin On a Prayer and Runaway. Songwriters usually like performing acoustically as it strips the song to its bare bones and the song translates more to the listener what the songwriter was trying to communicate.

Remember what Richie said in Behind the Music when he was talking about the MTV Music Awards when they performed Prayer and Wanted with just two acoustic guitars. "It shows them that we are not just some hair band, we're songwriters" or something along those lines anyway.

Don't wanna be a geek now, but I think it has something to do with Jon's voice also.

Maybe, but I think his voice is more "on show" if it's accoustic. With electric you can muffle a voice more, as the instruments drown it out a bit more.

i see you point but you can improvise more with acoustic and rather than going up on a particular note, jon will go down or stay at the same pitch instead.
