Default Ticket Price Inflation

This article doesn't talk about Bon Jovi's tour or prices, but it gives an interesting look at the way concert ticket prices have inflated through the years compared to health care and college education.

Interesting article.
Though U2's tour was cancelled because Bono ended up in the hospital, and the whole thing was rescheduled for next year with all tickets still honored.

I'm curious to know how many people get refunds for U2's tour. It will have been 2 years from the time their last album came out by the time those shows roll around. Tickets went on sale almost a year before the original shows were scheduled for. Now with the U2 360 DVD already released, wonder if people will get refunds if they have to wait another year.

I didn't realize Live Nation had bought ticketmaster, which means between the two biggest promoters, AEG and Live Nation, they now own arenas, the worlds biggest ticket distributer and rule over promoting artists live. Lets hope they don't just think it's all a blip on the radar screen because of the slow recovery of the economy.

I'm not sure. On the one hand, I can see a lot of people doing it, or selling their tickets. In fact I was counting on getting some cheap tickets to Giants that way. On the other hand though, U2 are still a massive live draw in the US, and this second leg of the 360 tour was hitting a lot of places that weren't hit on the first leg, which means they haven't been hit at all since the Vertigo Tour, and most of them since Popmart in '97.

MY U2 obsessed friend wants to hold on to the tickets we bought for Denver even though I was all for refunding them, since it's a year away and who knows??? I understand from some other people that refunded their tickets that it was a pain, they were really pushy about people keeping the tickets, they di get the refund but it seems it was given reluctantly.
With that said U2 is a really good live band, the fanbase hasn't disappeared so my guess is it will still sell well.

Good article. We all can hope that the concert industry will collapse soon so they can start charging decent amounts again. I seriously doubt I will go to any concert next year because the cost is just ridiculous.

It would be nice if it went back to reasonable, I don't have a problem with 150.00 to 200.00 for A list shows.
It strikes me as kind of funny, or maybe a bit ironic. Here in the US no one blinks or thinks twice about paying huge dollars to go see their sports teams, but they sure do bitch about having to pay to see a band.
