i love richie and hope he comes back but jon and the brand name bj sell the tickets...not richie. richie may give a rock n roll edge and credibility(til now...)to the average rock concert goer but jon and the hits sell the tickets.

before his solo tour i d say richie may is responsible maybe for 15% of the ticket sales, unfortyunately for the bands inner balance richie is far less responsible for the ticket sales...
having said that i think his role in the music and the live stage is far more important and hope he comes back really soon

This has been the shittiest tour to date---it's a complete joke. Don't you realize by winning these awards Jon thinks his shitty voice and playing with fill-ins is perfectly acceptable? That fans vote for and celebrate the mediocrity of these shows? NOT winning these awards would've made him take a step back and reevaluate the next album and tour. Instead, we will get more of the same since the fans have spoken. Well done Bon Jovi fans!

Despite all the shit that has been thrown at the band for them to win all these awards, Jon has got to b proud as punch. But I kinda agree with another comment that by cleaning up at these awards it hides significant problems in the band with Jon's vocals, setlist etc. success can breed complatency. Criticism breeds motivation to improve. Jon receives very little public criticism, and fan criticism he doesn't see anyway.

I went to the concert in Madrid and had a blast. I couldn't care less about Richie being missing now though I honestly thought of cancelling my tickets back in April.
Though I have no great expectations about albums to come, Bon Jovi is still a top live band.

I was wondering myself about Bon Jovi's liberal use of the world "sell out" after reading the wikipedia page for Munich's Olympic Stadium where they always have a good draw:

Bon Jovi performed at the stadium six times. The first one was on June 30, 2001, during the One Wild Night Tour. The second one was on June 13, 2003, during the Bounce Tour. The third one was on May 25, 2006 during the Have A Nice Day Tour, in front of a sold out crowd of 71,467 people. The fourth one was on May 24, 2008 during the Lost Highway Tour, in front of a sold out crowd of 70,473 people. The fifth was on June 12, 2011 during the Live 2011 in front of a sold out crowd of 68,025 people. The sixth one was on May 18, 2013 as part of their ongoing Because We Can - The Tour, in front of a sold out crowd of 64,284 people.

How on earth is a sell out crowd in 2006 71,000 tickets but in 2013 64,000 tickets constitutes a sell out? Something's fishy here because I was at that concert and it definitely wasn't full.

"Sell out" for Bon Jovi means anywhere they played. They pretty much claim everywhere was sold out despite the numbers clearly suggesting otherwise.

Of course, the phrase "sell out" has also been used in a different context with Bon Jovi and, in a lot of ways, that usage of the phrase is a lot more accuarate.

But the term "sell out" is not a Bon Jovi thing it's a promoter thing. The promoter determines the sell out number....it's an industry standard you can check all bands for similar venues over the years and will find that the numbers for "sell out" are always different. It's NOT every seat is filled with a butt or that every ticket that could be sold is sold. The promoter comes up with a percentage, usually 85% to 90%, based on seats that can be sold and if that percentage is met then it's a deemed sell out and reported to Billboard as such. It's not a meaningful figure. The overall attendance while down is still pretty good considering how much they've toured and all the drama this year.

Also if a section of the stadium or arena is closed, it is not counted as an empty seat or possible unsold ticket. It is simply not counted as part of the venues capacity, something which I didn't know before....

Yes, that is true anything that is deemed a "kill" seat weather due to production or otherwise is not in counted the promoter's venue capacity number.
