UK crowds better than US crowds?

Are UK crowds better than US crowds?, from all the videos ive seen and stuff i think UK crowds are better because they participate more and sing through out the song rather than just the chorus, except from Prayer at MSG 2005 which is legendary, but when i went to the o2 and watch the crowd during the set i dont think i saw one person that was not joining in, when i watch clips from the US legs there is none of that in my opinion during prayer no one jumps and so on......

Every US Band that comes to Europe for the first time is amazed by the European audience.

They are pretty impressed with Australian audiences too.
In Europe are you allowed to drink alcohol inside the venue while watching the show?
I have noticed in some footage that in the US that people seem to be drinking beer.
It is not allowed here in Australia.

in europe you can drink ...I think .... there were drunk ppl at shows everywhere I went in europe and the usa

I think that more than european being a great 'crowd' it is more about the usa being a very passive one most of the time...the japanese crowd is very into the music but is not showing much for example every audience is different
from an artist point of view the european crowd is first good to watch at because packed (it is important actually to not be too comfortable to ENTER a show emotionally) then you also have the attitude .. I think often the european audience goes to a concert to listen to the music they love more often the usa audience goes to a show to have fun with friends drink talk laugh eat etc (this is a general vision not talking about die hard fans here)

On the whole I would say The UK crowds are louder and more energetic, but the O2 shows were pretty timid. I think it might have something to do with the young passionate fans being out priced and left in the crap seats.

I totally agree- I went to one of the O2 shows and the people sitting around us were sitting texting on their mobiles the whole evening, and when I looked down onto the expensive seats it didn't look much better...I was seated at the Paris show as well but the crowd were so much better there.

And yes, people are allowed to drink during gigs in Europe. I am not against people having a drink while watching a gig, if that's how they want to enjoy themselves, then fine. I've just had too many experiences of having other people's lager thrown all over me because it's hilarious to throw drinks up into the air during the performance, and of being irritated to death by drunks asking me to move out of my space in the front row. Excuse me, no, I did not stand for 2 hours in the freezing cold to get to the front just so that someone who was more interested in getting sh*tfaced can push me out

People are allowed to drink during gigs here in the US too. At my last show in Boston I came home drenched in beer and my ears ringing from the woman behind me screaming constantly throughout the show. It was so loud she lost her voice 3/4 ths of the way through the show (thank god) so I could actually hear the lead singer after that.

Some fans fail to grasp the fact that it's not about THEM (and their friends) - it's about whoever is onstage. If the audience is quieter here (and it isn't always) it might just be that they are actually listening to the music instead of expressing themselves.

I agree with you it's awful to get a person next to you singing during the whole show ...and it is worse when it is off key (but I recall also one of yours here posting on backstage how he felt odd hearing himself singing along at the first show he went to on the circle tour )
I also agree that a non reaction is not always a NON FEELING

I though thought the thread was refering to the atmosphere more than to the fact it is loud or not ...you judge the crowd IN BETWEEN the songs or when the lead singer ask for a reaction or when the singer is not asking for a reaction and get it anyway ...I will never in my life forget the response to Richie's I'll be There For you in manheim 2003 ... the crowd sang 'alone' without richie without him asking for it it was a chant to keep the song going it was one of the most impressive audience reaction ever ... Jon couldn't stop it by beginning a new song like he usually do so he had to sing along with the crowd and then he managed to get the control back ....

that sort of reaction is maybe what was the OP refering to and if it is not mandatory to all show in europe it is much more common here and it's rather well known that artists LOVE that

I wasn't in Manheim, but the same happened in Munich 2008...and this was one those moments I will never forget, specially after richies dark period!
