I suppose it might be akin to hockey in Canada, especially saying something like "The Ottawa Senators are going to win the Cup this year" in the middle of the Air Canada Centre (home to the Toronto Maple Leafs) despite the fact that the Leafs might not even make the playoffs this year.

Yes I know - my daughter wore a Yankees T shirt in Boston once. She was only 10 at the time but people on the street sure were nasty to a little kid.

As for schedules - isn't July 8th around the All Star break? That's a good time for a concert. Though I will still be surprised if George lets us nasy rock people desecrate his holy stadium.

As far as I am concerned you can have Johnny Caveman back. I don't want him on my team. His hair and sideburns are still not short enough to be a Yankee. But then again even though he is on the team he will never be a "real" Yankee in my eyes. He will just be some guy wearing the pinstripes. He came here for the money...pure and simple. The glory and myth of playing for the most prestigious team in sports history means nothing to him. At least when other former Red Sox have come here, ie Boggs, Clemens, etc. (who i was no fans of either) they have acknowledged the lore of becoming a Yankee. Maybe Johnny has mentioned it too but it's mostly "Oh, Boston couldn't get the deal done and the Yankees could so I had to leave." He was loved in Boston by the fans and he left his teammates and friends for the almighty dollar. What loyalty. I don't care if he hits the game winning HR to clinch the AL East... I am no fan of that pie throwing clown. The only pleasure i can take from the whole deal is knowing Boston is still mourning the loss of their savior..

The the All Star Break is July 10th-13th. The Yanks will be in Tampa on July 8th and won't have another home game until July 14th. That gives them close to a week to fix the field if it happens.

Oh, and don't worry about the hair, I'm growing out mine to resemble the Johnny Damon that was.
