Voting for a song in the encore is pointless
So Shout won? Yeah I can really imagine a big swing from T.D. to Shout in a couple of days! The songs chosen are a joke anyway. All the songs are regulars in the set list anyway (apart from T.D.) so its not like its a big incentive to vote! Take the first vote- These Days won and they played C.C. and Medicine/Shout anyway so whats the point! If they were gonna do it properly they would pick 5 songs that are rarely played live where it would be geniunely exciting to hear which one won and maybe hear a song for the first time! Say:
-Living in Sin
-Wild is the Wind
-Dry County (though i've given up on them EVER playing that again, I last saw it at Wembley in 95)
-This ain't a love song
-Damned
There are loads of songs in the back catalogue that have been played live in the past that could be played again. People might say they might not know any of those 5 songs above but are they gonna know Captain Crash, I got the Girl or Just Older?! Probably not! Anyway unless you have (and know well) most or all of a bands albums then you accept that when you see them live you won't know a couple of their songs. I saw Aerosmith in 97 and at the time I didnt know stuff like 'Dream On' or 'Toys in the Attic'.
I have no problems with them playing Prayer, Bad Name, DOA or Faith cos they're songs that the band are know for- Jon has said he can't drop songs like that for that reason (which makes the omittance of Always from nearly every set list even more baffling!) its just stuff like the 3 Crush songs above I have the problem with.
I know I've got slightly off the point and I'm starting to moan about setlists but it frustrates me that you have all these songs that they don't play. Slippery and Jersey both have sold twice what Crush so people are more likely to know songs off them than Crush!
For the record I've seen Aerosmith, Guns n roses, Bryan Adams, Def Leppard, Meat Loaf and more and Bon Jovi are still better than all of them live, its just that they can be so much better. I was at the concert which is now the 'Live in London' video and it was awesome. They just seem to wanna play the same 25 songs now though, as the encore 'vote' has proved. Maybe its an age thing, they don't wanna have to keep rehearsing old songs. i don't know....
