Default What encore would you be happy with?

There still seems to be some debate over the length of the encores and what goes into them. If you could choose 5 songs to have in the encore what would they be?

I would have:

Blood On Blood
These Days
Hey God
Keep The Faith
Never Say Goodbye/This Ain't A Love Song/All About Loving You(Can't decide here)

I know there is nothing much to that but it is what I would love to see

The endless encores were always one of my favourite features of the old stadium shows. They seemed to make up half the set at one point. And then the bows and handshakes and drumsticks and fireworks.

I like the covers. I know I'm in a minority, but after a well planned set, that ended on a climax, I see the encores as a time for fun, the audience's and the band's (which means a good time for rarities), and hopefully a bit of sentiment. Always like shows that go out on bringing everyone together.

So in that spirit and my wildest dreams:

I Believe
Wild In The Streets
Hey God

Drift Away
Love For Sale
Peggy Sue (Buddy Holly. I've lately been thinking they'd do a great job of this)
Saturday Night

Never Say Goodbye

Aloha !

One with 4 songs:

- A big hit
- The best new song
- A big rarity
- Wanted Dead Or Alive

And no ****ing ballads.

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan

I can mostly agree with that. I think that either Wanted or Keep The Faith would work in that spot though. And "big hit" could be interchangeable with "big fan favourite", so something like Blood On Blood could work too. Definitely agree with having a new song in there, it pisses me off no end when the show actually ceases to be in support of a new album and just turns into a greatest hits show.

Don't agree with no ballads though ... Living In Sin was great at MK, as was Never Say Goodbye in Hyde Park, and (based on the DVD) This Ain't A Love Song in '95. Think Always would work as an encore song too

That is something I agree with completely. The encore should be high energy - as in always leave them wanting more. An occasional ending with NSG is fine as it's their song. If they used this all the time though it would lose its punch.

I also don't mind covers as long as the original set was long enough and satisfying enough to want something different. Bon Jovi does some awesome covers - but they shouldn't be done at the expense of some of their best songs.

Put a surprise or two in the encore - many artists setlists are similar from town to town. Surprises at the end of the show will stick in the audience's mind longer than one in the middle.

Here is a good example of an encore from Bruce's show last night in Dublin:

Thunder Road - This is not played that much any more - a great way to open the encore
Bobby Jean - This is such a rarity that it is a big surprise
Born To Run - This is played at every show. Think of it as Wanted
Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out - This is also a rarity and a guest (SSJ) was invited to sing along as he was in town too.
American Land - This has been played at every show on this tour. It's a new song that was translated from the Seeger Sessions.

Now in my opinion - THAT is how an encore should be constructed. And not a ****ing ballad among them

Bruce constructs his shows differently to Jovi. He just keeps on building up and building up and leaves the audience absolutely at peak energy.

Jovi encores have always been more the sweet after the main course.

But OMG, Bruce's encores this tour have been phenomenal.
